A new Pew Research analysis makes me ponder how effective education is on the public's opinions on evolution acceptance.

On Feb 1, 1972, bill HB 2937 was filed in the Florida legislature: "A bill to be entitled An act relating to education; directing the school board to require in the teaching of evolution the reading of appropriate religious passages dealing with creation and evolution including, but not limited to, chapters one and two of Genesis ..."

I ponder whether this is true: There’s little real power that a teacher has over students in the classroom anymore. The only real power is that of “the grade.” And this power derives from one or more of three fears students have: fear of grades, fear of teacher, fear of parents.

I still like to research Florida’s ties to creationism in it many forms, which is fortunate, because I never fail to turn up something new. For instance, I’d like to introduce you to Bill Clifton and his Science Partners business.

An interview I did on Chicago radio station WCPT's show "I've Got Issues" is now archived and available for your listening pleasure. Unfortunately, they manage to misspell my name in the descriptive blurb. I've politely asked for that to be corrected. This interview was really fun and enjoyable. I've been nervous going into all of the previous radio shows, but in this one I felt much more relaxed and prepared. Amazing what a glass of wine ahead of time can do.

I have a guest blog post published at the Florida Heritage Book Festival website: The Evolution of Going Ape. I talk about how the idea for Going Ape started off as a mere curiosity and over the course of a few years developed into a published book. I was invited to write the guest post because I'm one of the featured authors who will be giving a talk at the Book Festival in September!

Surprise, surprise, a story about me and Going Ape was published on the front page of the Orlando Sentinel. Of course, I knew a story was coming but had no idea it would land on the front. Pretty darn cool!

The Tallahassee Democrat published an op-ed I submitted about science education in voucher-accepting private schools: Science has a spot in voucher debates. I especially like the political cartoon that ran with it.
