This Monolithic Dome home in Illinois has 6 solar-thermal collectors that collect the sun’s heat and convert it into thermal energy. It heats water that circulates through the radiant heating system to heat the home. The home is a hemisphere with a 48-foot diameter and a tubular extension, built using a single air-formed membrane. The hemispheric main dome encompasses two stories, four bedrooms, two baths, kitchen, dining room, living room, utility room, nooks and crannies for storage. The tubular extension is a 24-foot hemisphere, four feet over center and 60 feet long. It holds a two-car garage, workshop and utility space http://ow.ly/tvvS30aS8Ym #Monolithic #MonolithicDome #MonolithicDomes #MonolithicDomeInstitute #Dome #Domes #Concrete #Thin-Shell #House #Houses #Greenbuilding #SustainableHousing #Sustainability #Homes #Home #Architecture #Engineering #Design #Illinois #SolarPower #CleanEnergy

Designed by Eduardo Torroja y Miret, the Quince Ojos Viaduct in Madrid, Spain was completed in 1933. The free cantilever girder bridge has both deck and piers made of reinforced concrete. Span lengths: 15 x 7 m; Architect: Modesto López Otero; Architect: Augustin Aguirre. (The bridge looks like an arch bridge, but due to the joints placed at each center of a span, the half-arches actually carry as cantilevers.) http://ow.ly/ccwU30aSf8m #engineer #engineers #engineering #architecture #design #bridge #bridges #viaduct #concrete #cantilever #EduardoTorroja #Torroja #History #Spain #Madrid

This Illustrates Tests With Spark Discharges From a Ball of Forty Centimeters Radius in Tesla's Wireless Plant Erected at Colorado Springs in 1899. The Ball Is Connected to the Free End of a Grounded Resonant Circuit Seventeen Meters in Diameter. The Disruptive Potential of a Ball, Is, According to Tesla, in Volts Approximately V=75,400r (r Being in Centimeters), That Is, in This Case 75,400 x 40=3,016,000 Volts. The Gigantic Tesla Coil Which Produced These Bolts of Thor Was Capable of Furnishing a Current of 1,100 Amperes in the High Tension Secondary. The Primary Coil Had a Diameter of 51 Feet! This Tesla Coil Produced Discharges Which Were the Nearest Approach to Lightning Ever Made by Man.
