Good idea!

How to Set Auto-Expiration Date for Shared Folders & Files in Google Drive

When you share any folder or file in Google Drive with someone, the shared links will work forever until you manually change the sharing permissions.

What if you want to share a folder in your Google Drive for exactly 24 hours and automatically make the folder private after that period?
Or share a Google Docs spreadsheet for a week and then remove access to other users?

We should make the update.

Make sure Google Drive on your Mac or PC is up to date!

Google Drive for Mac/PC sync client versions 1.22 or older will not be supported after July 1st. Going forward support will be discontinued for versions more than a year old.

OS X and Windows users may check what version of the sync client they are using by clicking on the Drive for Mac/PC menu (which appear as three dots) and then clicking About. The dialog that appears will include the version number on it. Users still on versions 1.22 and lower after July 1, 2016 will no longer be able to sync files between Google Drive and local storage using Google Drive for Mac/PC.

I note on my Mac, the sync client appears up to date, and as I don't recall manually updating, I expect that means under usual circumstances it updates automatically.

Stand up for what is correct.

This comes via +Gaythia Weis ... kudos to these faculty for their clarity and honesty:
quote The point of departure for this course is based on the scientific premise that human-induced climate change is valid and occurring. We will not, at any time, debate the science of climate change, nor will the "other side" of the climate change debate be taught or discussed in this course. This includes discussion among students in the discussion forums. Opening up a debate that 98 percent of climate scientists unequivocally agree to be a non-debate would detract from the central concerns of environment and health addressed in this course
See the article for people insisting that it has to be "two sides" ... we need a rhetorical history of how the right has coopted this two-sidedness. Sure, there could be a different course about climate change and the debate around it: but that would not be a climate science course.

An email sent out by University of Colorado - Colorado Springs professors is getting attention across the country by some conservative blogs and national news outlets.

Library Wars

I don't know about you, but library wars seem like a far more civilized approach to war than using conventional weapons
The dark trade of collecting books used to get really messy.

Courage isn't the absence of fear - it's the ability to overcome fear . . .

I can't wait to see the latest images of Jupiter and the area. These last missions to the gas giants and outer planets has been enlightening and inspiring. I can only hope the same for astrophysicists who were not a part of these NASA missions. Yes, I believe that history will label them as myopic and arbitrary in their rule-making process.
