Last night Peter's body died or Roll the stone away Part 2.
“Oh, my! Oh, my goodness! Oh, wow!  Mom…? Dad…? Donna Jean!!! Uncle Harry, is that you?!   Oh, my! Oh, my goodness!   Jesus!!! Oh, Sweet Lord! I’m really here!   Thank you LORD! Thank you, thank you!” Right now I’m trying to imagine Peter’s experience somet...

At first I thought, this is a book for our times! A must read. But then as I read the review article, the two arguments sited as quotes from the author show that Joel Hoffman has himself missed the boat completely.

Article quote: "As for abortion, the issue at the core is the sanctity of life. Hoffman points out that if we want to understand what the Bible says about abortion, we need to know whether a fetus is considered a person. As frustrating as it is, the Bible doesn’t give us an answer for the crucial question of when life begins."

In this regard there are three well known passages that apply directly to abortion and when life begins: We are "made in the image of God", Genesis 1:27, "You shall not kill [murder]" - a very concise blanket statement, Exodus 20:13, and we are "knitted together in my [our] mothers womb." Psalm 139:13. How much more explicit does one need to be? Arguing whether a fetus is a human or not is the dumbest of dumb questions. Clearly, a fetus is a living [not dead] entity of human origin.

Article quote: Hoffman’s analysis is that the Bible doesn’t care much about homosexuality, and its stance is “limited to rejecting male homosexual sex with the same vehemence as, for example, clothing made from wool and linen mixtures.”

Here Hoffman needs to go back and read his Bible. The texts concerning clothing made from mixed materials are separate and distinct from each other. The matter of clothes made from mixed materials has to do with the 'set apartness' of the Hebrew people and is introduced in Leviticus 19:1 with God instructing Moses, "Speak to the entire assembly of Israel and say to them: ‘Be holy because I, the Lord your God, am holy.'" Separately, homosexual acts (amongst a whole list of sexual sins) are described as 'an abomination' Leviticus 18:22. No ambiguity there as to what God thinks about it! I wrote an extensive blog on the subject http://davidoharrison.blogspot.ca/2015/07/thoughts-on-leviticus-1822-part-1_21.html

Brexit - "What was that all about?"
I was born in 1951, six years after the end of the Second World War.  I can remember as a young child seeing the charred remains of buildings in London that had not yet been torn down or reconstructed.  The significance of WWII has been lost on many; the bl...

FIXING TORONTO AND THE GTA'S TRAFFIC PROBLEMS
Last week I was driving along the 407 toll highway across the top of the city, zooming along and trying to keep up with the slowpokes dawdling along at 130km an hour, when I decided to save a couple of bucks and jog down Young Street to the 401, a distance ...

THE BIBLE AND THE DILEMMA OF INERRANCY
It occurs to me that inerrancy is tragically misunderstood. When we look at a beautiful object we will all see, analyze, criticize, objectify, and appreciate the beauty of that object from our own pre-existing paradigm. The truth that can never be changed a...

Faith is climbing out on a limb, cutting it off, and watching the tree fall away
People who deny miracles are those that either haven’t seen them, or they’ve seen a miracle but refuse to believe what they’ve seen. Miracles come in all shapes and sizes.  God was never one to ‘put on a show’ for the sake of simply impressing His audience....
