It looks like BMW's vaunted “i” division is going to face some intranational competition soon. According to a report from Autocar, Mercedes will unveil a new all-electric hatch concept at this year's Frankfurt auto show.
Autocar says this five-door concept will be a preview of a production model for Mercedes' new EQ brand, a nameplate aimed squarely at BMW's “i” brand. We got our first glimpse of EQ back at the sub-brand's launch at last year's Paris auto show, where Merc trotted out a new crossover-style concept. According to Autocar, this will become the EQ C, the first model under the new sub-brand.
Now, a new hatch concept called the EQ A will take center stage in Frankfurt, giving us a glimpse of EQ's “budget” model. Autocar claims a price tag starting around $45,000 when the car goes on sale in roughly two years.

Not much is known at this point regarding the powertrain, but the report believes a simple front-mounted electric motor will turn the front wheels, managed by a fixed-ratio transmission. Autocar claims a performance-oriented model with dual motors might be in the cards as well.
Following the debut of the EQ C SUV and EQ A hatch, Mercedes has also trademarked EQ E and EQ S, presumably a mid-size sedan or SUV (EQ E) and full-size sedan/SUV (EQ S).

A leaked chart has revealed a key stat about the upcoming Tesla Model 3. If this source is to be believed, the sedan should be able to hit 60 mph in 5.6 seconds.
On Twitter, Model 3 Owners Club posted a chart comparing the Model S to the new Model 3. Responding to a user asking about the chart's origins, the group says it has sources at Tesla who prefer to remain anonymous.

Official info on Model 3 from Tesla. You saw it here first!! #tesla #model3 1/3 pic.twitter.com/pJ9vvL1YUM
— Model 3 Owners Club (@Model3Owners) May 22, 2017

Predictably, the Model 3 won't be nearly as quick as the top-of-the-line Model S P100D Ludicrous+. Hitting 60 mph in just 2.3 seconds, it's the quickest production vehicle we have ever tested. But for an entry-level sedan like the Tesla Model 3, a time of 5.6 seconds seems reasonable. A 2017 BMW 330i hit the 60-mph mark in 5.5 seconds in a recent test.
Production on the Tesla Model S is expected to begin in July, although plenty of orders have already poured in for the sexy small sedan. Tesla previously revealed that the Model 3 would achieve a range of around 215 miles, and the chart hints it will be at least a little higher. Prices will start at around $35,000 before government incentives. We hope to learn much more about the car in the coming weeks.

Lexus has released another sporty coupe, and host Jason Cammisa tries to figure out what exactly it is this time around on the latest episode of Ignition. With Lexus' inconsistent history of sports coupes starting with the sporty and luxurious SC 300 from the ‘90s, then the not sporty SC 430, and then the supercar LFA, Jason wasn't sure what to expect from the all-new LC 500. So what kind of coupe is this? Find out in this episode.
The LC 500's 471-hp 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V-8 mated to a 10-speed automatic, 4.8-second 0-60 time, 13.2-second quarter-mile, huge brakes, and mechanical LSD make the Lexus look great on paper. Not to mention the LFA-inspired tachometer's redline of 7,100 rpm. This appears to be the formula for a sports car, but it's not quite that as Jason explains.
The coupe's very attractive styling, utterly impressive interior, silky smooth powertrain, seating for four, and superb ride quality result in something completely different, something that Lexus does very well. Those wanting efficiency with their sexy styling can opt for the LC 500h, which packs a hybrid powertrain consisting of a 3.5-liter V-6 coupled to a pair of electric motors that produces 354 hp combined and delivers an EPA-rated 26/35 mpg city/highway.
Watch the episode below and find out what Jason thinks of the Japanese automaker's latest coupe.

The Fiat 500 successfully resurrected an icon with its cute looks and nostalgic charm. Rather than piggybacking on that success, the bigger and more ambiguously styled 500L crossover missed the mark here in the U.S.
Facelifted for 2018 for Europe, the updated 500L offers a bounty of choices for potential customers in terms of trim, color, and powertrain. Fiat also says 40 percent of the 2018 500L's components are new to boot.

Three trim levels are available: Urban, Wagon, and Cross. Urban emphasizes city driving while Wagon offers a seating arrangement for seven people. Cross is the most off-road capable with nearly an inch of heightened ground clearance as well as a new bumper design and new front and rear skid plates.
For Europe, powerplant options are plentiful. The top of the line is a 1.4-liter inline turbocharged four-cylinder producing 120 hp. Fiat also offers LPG, methane, and diesel options. Transmission offerings include a five- or six-speed manual. Fiat's Dualogic robotic automatic transmission is also available.

Fiat is doubling down on the 500L's crossover appeal in the Cross configuration. It offers three driving modes via the 3.5-inch display in the instrument cluster: Normal, Traction+, and Gravity control, which maintains speed while driving down a slope.
Fiat's City Brake system is offered across the range, providing automatic braking in the event of an impending collision. It also features an upgraded rear-parking camera for better visibility.

A 7-inch touchscreen controls Uconnect HD Live. The infotainment system is compatible with both Apple Car Play and Android Auto. Uconnect also features Bluetooth connectivity and AUX and USB ports.
Fiat has not yet announced when the 2018 500L will go on sale in the U.S. or how much it will cost. Stay tuned for more U.S.-specific details.
