Anthony and Will did a superb job. They were polite, organized, efficient, neat and clean and obviously knew their job. Anthony kept me informed as to what they were doing and what I could expect with regard to the inspection. An excellent team. 1 Stars 2 Stars 3 Stars 4 Stars 5 Stars 5.00 ...

Thanks Lamar for the nice review.
Lamar Shareef the service man was very good & I would like to get him in the future. He takes his work very seriously, but at the same time he takes the adequate time to explain things thoroughly to his customer. 1 Stars 2 Stars 3 Stars 4 Stars 5 Stars 5.00. 03/24/2015 ...

Thanks Albert for the nice review.
Albert Mateer worked with us on a minor emergency to get repairs done on a weekend. He was courteous, efficient, and professional (and friendly), and completed the work in even less time than we expected. 1 Stars 2 Stars 3 Stars 4 Stars 5 Stars 5.00. 03/23/2015. Bert was great.

Replacing a HVAC system is not something a person typically looks forward to. So I approached getting quotes for replacing our 24 year old system with some uncertainty and concerns about cost, equipment and installation. I received 6 quotes from various companies for a replacement system and can ...

We have had MTB mechanical doing our annual maintenance for the past 5 years now. They are very reliable, and easy to work with. Customer service is outstanding, and everyone is just so friendly. Their honesty is what impresses me the most. There was only an issue with our furnace one time and they even showed us a video of what the problem was. I would recommend them to anyone.

Similar to a previous review I've read....MTB overcharges for parts and labor! They came over for a semi-annual service visit and replaced the run capacitor. At most a $75 part for a 5-minute changeout for a total of $247 (with 15% discount). I went to their corporate office in Charlotte to hear how they validate their fees...I was told "That's just what we charge" and "I don't expect you to understand, you're not in the business". As a Survey Divsion Manager, I understand labor rates, multipliers and everything associated with labor and overhead costs. This service industry is tainted and it's time to bring back some honesty and integrity. Very poor customer service and unsubstantiated fees to the customers.

Extraordinarily expensive. Charged $89 for a service call to diagnose a blown capacitor on my AC, which I had already self diagnosed. The part I had issue with was wanting an additional $269 to replace the capacitor, a part which costs $20 and takes 3 mins to replace. Ended up sending the tech (who in fairness was nice enough) on his way, dealt with a warm house over the weekend, picked up a new capacitor from Grainger Monday morning and fixed on my own. I'm willing to pay for the convenience of having someone come do a simple fix, but $350 for a $20, 3 min fix is ridiculous.

Response from the owner - 2 years ago
We understand that price is important to our customers and we have kept our pricing well below that of many of our competitors without sacrificing quality. Our diagnosis includes an inspection of the entire system, while this customer was able to replace a capacitor himself he would not be able to determine the cause of the failure or identify other impending issues that only a trained professional could. In addition we do not use the standard run capacitors that cost $32 at Grainger's, we only use the most highly rated American made parts with the best warranty so that our customers do not have to pay for the same repair again in a year or two. We appreciate all customer feedback.

We have lived in South Charlotte for over six years and have re-newed our service contract with MTB each and every year. Their staff is very professional and their pricing is very reasonable. We recommend them to all our neighbors.

We have had a annual maintenance contract with MTB since we moved into our house 2 years ago. We have nothing but good things to say about their technicians - they have been professional and courteous. Even the people we have spoken to at MTB have all be professional and courteous. The prices charged by the company, however, are mind blowing. The technician was here earlier this week to start the air conditioning unit and make sure everything was well. He came back once he was done to tell me that all was well, except that he noticed that the condensation pump in the crawl space was running non-stop and needed to be replaced. He pulled out his book with company pricing, and told me that it would be $399 to replace the pump, but we would get a 15% discount because of our maintenance contract and our price would be $339. He showed me where the unit was and it was running continuously even though there was no condensation in the unit to pump out. I googled and discovered that the pump was freely available for $40. The technician said I needed to speak to management as he did not control pricing. I called MTB, but since the manager had left for the day, I decided to wait and not get the pump replaced right then. I ordered the pump from Amazon and it arrived yesterday. Mind you that I have never even seen a condensation pump, and am not mechanically adept. To make a long story short, it took me longer to crawl to the unit in the crawl space and back, then it took to replace it using a screwdriver to loosen and tighten one clamp. The entire process was less than 5 minutes by a rank amateur, at a total cost of $40. When you consider that the technician was already at my house to service the a/c, MTB wanted $300 for labor that would have added at most 5 minutes to the service visit. Even if you assume that the pricing in the book included driving time, this still amounts to more than $300 per hour. Even Mercedes Benz technicians only charge $135/hour ($85 if you go to an independent repair shop). I did leave a review on MTBs website, and, to their credit, someone did respond today. Basically their view is that the pricing is not motivated by greed, but that's what it takes to provide quality service. If it's not greed, it's gross mismanagement - since when does a five minute job necessitate a $300+ labor charge? Perhaps they should look at their overhead and become more efficient. I will probably continue to use MTB for the annual maintenance because I find their technicians very good and professional. However, if they recommend any repairs, I will definitely need to do my homework and get some additional quotes. I will venture to guess that not all companies need $300/hour to provide qualified technicians. UPDATE: 10/15/2014 It turns out that MTB Mechanical raised their maintenance contract rates significantly, so we decided to shop around. Perhaps having the same company that we have a maintenance contract with should do any repairs as well. As part of my research, I identified three companies that seemed to have a good reputation - McClintock, Integrity, and Patterson. For complete disclosure, two of these were more expensive from a maintenance contract perspective, even after the recent MTB rate hike. I asked each of them what their rates were to replace a condensate pump. One was $203 (before the 15% discount), and the other two $240 and $250 (again before the 15% discount). I was wondering if all companies charged outrageous prices, or just MTB. Although I would not be happy paying $200 for a part that cost $40 and involved 5 minutes of labor, the $399 MTB wanted makes the others quite attractive. Do your research - I feel badly for the MTB techs that are very good, but MTB is just plain greedy.

I called MTB when my system went down when it was freezing cold outside. They scheduled someone to come onsite the same day and they fixed the issue quickly. The technician they sent out was very professional (used footies to cover his shoes when he came indoors) and friendly, the people I worked with over the phone were really nice as well...I've used MTB in the past and will continue to use them in the future. Great experience with them, would definitely recommend.

We were using another company for our heating/cooling needs and decided to change to MTB because the plumbing company that my husband works for has a good relationship with MTB. So glad we did!!! So professional, knowledgeable and honest. Peace of mind from trust is a wonderful thing. I would recommend MTB without any hesitation.

Last fall I had two A/C units and a furnace go out. I had estimates completed by two competitors and was very surprised by the high price. I was referred to MTB through a contractor friend and I won't use anyone else. THey were able to put in a far superior system, that qualified for the energy credit, and did it for $6k less than one estimate and $3K less than the other. The work exceeded expectations as the install was done faster than expected and they did a great job cleaning up I now recommend them to anyone needing A/C or heat service.
