Our new poster for our 2 Caterham Festival events on Make Music Day UK:

The North Downs Community Orchestra joins Caterham Festival and Make Music Day, Wednesday, 21st June, 2017

We're a fun, friendly, amateur Orchestra, open to musicians who play an orchestral instrument. In our ranks are learners, maestros and the rather rusty who improve, share and resurrect their musical knowledge together.

We’re keen to involve more people in making music locally.

In particular, we are looking for more string and brass players to help our one year-old orchestra continue to gather momentum under the effective and supportive guidance of our professional Musical Director, Shona Fenion. We are quite unusual in that we don't audition and have a range of parts to suit most playing standards. With the enthusiasm and dedication of our members we continue to go from strength to strength.

If you’d like to join or support us please contact us via our website or email: And you can also come and meet us at the Caterham Festival. We are taking part in two events, both on Wednesday, 21st June, the Summer Solstice.

The North Downs Community Orchestra is hosting a free first birthday concert Sunday, March 19, 6pm in the Bawtree Hall, at Hazelwood School, Wolfs Hill, Limpsfield.
Conducted by Shona Fenion, the concert programme will include the World Premiere of Something's Stirring on Godstone Green’, composed especially for the NDCO by Nick Drewe of Fine- Tuned Arrangements. This is a really lovely piece with motifs reflecting where the orchestra rehearses (Godstone Green, Endeavour Scout Headquarters) and its repertoire.
More detailed information can be found on or find it on Facebook.

The Orchestra will be taking part in the Music Marathon at St John’s Smith Square in London. We will be playing from 11:00 to 11:30 on Saturday 17th September the aim being to be part of a continuous programme of music that will also raise funds for St John's Young Artists’ Scheme. Come along, support the orchestra, enjoy the music, the open house and support this great cause too. And if you want to play then come along to one of our open rehearsals - they are all open - and join in the fun. ‪#‎SJSSMarathon‬ @StJohnsSmithSq @NdcOrchestra

BBC Radio 3 and BBC Surrey throw their weight behind the Get Playing Initiative. Backed by the ABRSM, Making Music, Music for all and the BBC there is a wonderful campaign this summer to encourage people to get playing and to join the wonderful world of music. Have a good laugh at his expense as Peter Matthews, a founder of the Orchestra & Band, does his bit to promote the initiative on behalf of the Orchestra and Band. Its all about fun and enjoying yourself. Come and join us and have a blast. #BBCGetPlaying
