There's a lot of talk about what's the most affordable way for a person to get into DE shaving. I humbly submit that the plastic Dorco PL-602.

Good article on how to inspect a razor before using it.
Many new double-edge (DE) safety razor users will get a new, often very inexpensive DE razor from an Internet seller.  Others will get a hand-me-down razor from a relative, or even purchase a vintage razor from a garage sale,...

Hi All--  I received a sample of the HTGAM/Razorock lime/menthol pre shave soap the other day and tried it this morning.  The performance is excellent! A worthy competitor to MR GLO....

I have the Bevel, price has dropped to $20 a month. Also it's available at some Target stores as are the cream, oil, blades etc. But be aware those are one month versions instead of the 3 months shipped by Bevel. If anyone wants to get the 1st month free ask and I'll give you a link.

I had a viewer with a Merkur 34C that he liked just fine but he asked me for suggestions for another razor that would provide a "different" experience.  I came up with 3 alternates.  And, why yes, it includes a video!  :)
A reader writes: "I have a Merkur 34C heavy duty that I really like. I'm wondering if you can give me some advice on what to buy to complement the Merkur.

As a follow-up to my post here on the 24th, here is the completed article I wrote about shaving mugs and scuttles.
There seems to be increasing interest in shaving mugs and scuttles. Let's see if we can make sense of the different varieties and what they are used for.

I hope this isn't considered "spamming" but I wanted to let y'all know that I wrote an article for Sharpologist about the "best" shaving soaps (with specific criteria).  HTGAM Synergy soaps are right up there.  :)
It used to be easy to tell which shaving soaps were the great and which were just OK. No longer. Here are some of the best, based on specific criteria.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! Finally, a true review, with actual details and specs. Tired of "smells great, better than that lemon/ lime... didn't take the time to read, research, know what the hell I'm talking about [or even what's in it, seriously?]..." reviews. I thank you, Mark, spam away like this anytime. You are officially at top-o'-my list of soap reviewers. Keep up the actual research and sharing real-world comparisons, without the "makes the face feel wonderful..." BS
You, Sir, are my new soap-review hero!!! That was awesome! THANKS!

You guys may not need it but if you come across a newbie they might like to read my new (and free) ebook on shaving.  It's a 42 page PDF and although not as comprehensive as Leisureguy's book I think it's a decent introduction.
Announcing our first "product," a 42 page ebook compilation of the recent "Get A More Enjoyable Shave In 30 Days" series, with additional content.

Could it be that "natural" hairs in shaving brushes cause irritation?
If you asked me 3 months ago if the type of shaving brush makes an appreciable difference in the quality of my shave, I’d probably have said no.

The smell of my horsehair brush is most unnatural... burning tires? bestshave.net No. 6... I like it the fiber of it, just haven't done enough face-lathering to contribute to an answer.

Why I'll Likely Never Use Feather Blades

I have a package of Feather double-edge blades that I bought as part of a sample assortment. I may eventually try a shave with one, but I kn
