"Thoroughly enjoyed the audio tour and walking about the island."
"Make sure to dress warm as the ferry ride to/from the island can be really cold."

I've been to San Fran a few times but never made it to Alcatraz. The first time I was able to do a boat cruise that went around the island but never stepped foot on it. I was excited when a colleague suggested we go while we were in town for work. It is such an important part of our history that I just couldn't pass up the chance. Great place to visit an important piece of us history Audio tour with headphones was free! Told a story and helped make the experience that much better Not too crowded on presidents day and the weather was perfect Wear walking shoes!

Visited there in 1992. Fantastic trip. Having seen so many movies about it I was overcome by the sense of de ja vu and also an incredible sense of desolation. Bleak place to be incarcerated.

I'm German but I try to write it in English It was great on Alcatraz Island. The Audio Guide Tour was very exciting because you can almost completly feel like a prisoner. But the most interessting things were the escapes. You also get a great view for San Francisco and the Golden Gate Brigde. So I give 5 stars

We didn't know you have to reserve tickets more than two months ahead for Ai Weiwei's @Large art show, especially for weekend night tour. But it was one of the best art show I've ever visited. Combined with Alcatraz's night tour, the whole package of experience is unique. The national park is well maintained. Flowers are blooming almost every corners we went. Make sure to catch 30-45 minutes sunset window to take marvelous pictures of San Francisco when city and Bay Bridge lights are on with purple blue sky as backdrop. It is the moment that you feel how lucky people live in the city.

I really like the tour they offer here. You can stay as much time as you like in the island. The audio tour is in several languages and it explain in order all the interesting facts about the prison and the island. The audio guides you emotionally and fiscally thru the prison and is one of the best audio tours I've made. Apart from the audio tour previously a park ranger gave us another tour thru the history of this island. All of this took us about 3 hours since we took the ferry till we were back in mainland. All the buildings except from the prison building are in a really bad state.

It was part of our honeymoon in 2006. came from good old Ireland .enjoyed the boat trip out to the island ,good idea to pre book online . amazing feeling out there ,it became chilly .the audio cassettes was excellent and also the tour guide .plenty of time allowed to view the prison cells and actually stand inside the small sized cell .
