We'll be renting a VW Eurovan pop-up camper and wandering around the Southwest for a bit. What interesting or tasty places should we be stopping at along the way?

This week's geek goal: stress-testing the HAMMER2 filesystem to see if it's a viable ZFS replacement for home (14TB). The design doc is a good read: https://gitweb.dragonflybsd.org/dragonfly.git/blob_plain/HEAD:/sys/vfs/hammer2/DESIGN

My first AMD in 20 years, and the most difficult build since using Celeron 300A's modded to run in SMP mode. The mobo didn't fit the case (EATX), bought the wrong radiator (AM4 vs TR4 socket), then was accidentally shipped a video card radiator instead! The stock fans are too loud and the DIMM's don't yet run reliably at 3600MHz, but at least Gmail runs without lag.

Tonight, I'm inadvertently reliving the 90's by building computers while listening to Purple Motion. Back then, I had expected this whole computing as a hobby idea to have blown over by now.

Refilling my first fountain pen feels like the most grown-up thing I've done with my life. Having kids is a distant second.

v1.0 of my plan to transition off of +CrashPlan at 3X the cost+SPOF. Any ideas on how to solve either issue? Has anyone out there tried https://www.idrive.com/? Their pricing seems much more reasonable than GCS for this use case.

Did I get it right? Will the US longest war now last forever?

2010 Matt Bors cartoon.

He now thinks he was naive to assume it would end before 2100.

Since +CrashPlan is shutting down their home service, what N+2 (original, local, cloud) backup setups are folks switching to? We have 5TB to backup from Mac, Linux (and Windows soon via VT-d).

For the last 9 years, CrashPlan was the best game in town. I'm considering switching back to rsync+ZFS for local backups, and tarsnap or GCE for Cloud.
