My kids were asking for a Daddy-Daughter Date, so I bought tickets to North America's biggest bike expo. Loads of Kids Activities, such as MTB races and a chance to ride the Laguna Seca track. Anyone else going?

Any suggestions for things to do/see in Iceland, Switzerland (Zurich), or Sweden? We're taking off a month this summer to explore them.

With flights costing only $183 a person, flying from San Francisco to Reykjavik, Iceland was a no-brainer.

While editing photos to the sounds of Nevermore, I can't help but think about what a loss to the scene Warrell Dane's passing was. Too soon.

Here's one of my favorite of Nevermore's tracks from 18 years ago.

So, 30% of Finnish BMW drivers are flagrantly violating traffic laws*, whereas only 14% of Toyota owners are. That sounds intuitively correct to me.

* I recognize that speeding is not the only traffic law, but it's a valid proxy.
Speeding tickets by car manufacturer in Finland. Lada , 41 speeding tickets. Have you ever seen a Lada ? It's like a box of matches on wheels. The thing has so much air resistance it won't break the speed limit when falling off a cliff :)

Now that she's turned 5, Little Bird is taking on street photography. Here is my favorite photo of hers this week, taken on a tram while we were playing hookie from school and work.

I'm excited to share photos from our epic 3-day, 50-mile family ride along the Johnny Cash and American River Bike Trails. There are not many other places we could have pulled this trip off with a 4 year old behind the handlebars.

Planning accommodations is the hardest part of a bike tour, especially if child-friendly routes are necessary. We stayed at an AirBnb at our starting point in Granite Bay, but if we were to do it over again we would stay at the picturesque campsites at Folsom Lake SRA. Subsequently, we stayed at Hawthorn Suites in Gold River, and Motel 6 outside of CSU Sacramento.

Next up: Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes in Idaho (72mi)?
