Today, on Memorial Day, I remember my father, the Rev. Dr. J. Milburn McLeod. In May of 1942, he entered the United States Army as a Chaplain. He served for 48 months during which time he crossed the English Channel in the D-Day Invasion of Normandy landing on Omaha Beach and served in the December 1944 Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded five battle stars and the Bronze Star for meritorious service. The words of his commanding officer, in the citation of the Bronze Star sum up his strength and conviction in his service to his country: “There is no adequate yardstick for the degree of warmth and unselfish devotion that Chaplain McLeod has manifested at all times and under all conditions. A truly accurate measure lies only in the spirits and hearts of those who have come under his influence. By word and example he has implanted the teachings of Christ in the minds and hearts of thousands of men. Yet by his good-natured humanness, he has made himself a comrade to all and a living picture of his teachings and of his faith.”

Does it strike anyone else as odd that our modern "social networking" is a kind of computer aided voyeurism with little real human contact?
