Did you know that ankle instability affects at least 1 in 10 people throughout life. Ankle instability is when the ligaments of the ankle become stretched and the joint feels like it is constantly ‘giving way.’ This condition can happen while partaking in sport, walking, running, or even standing. Common symptoms of ankle instability include pain, discomfort, tenderness and swelling. Those suffering from ankle instability may find that the ankle turns inward and the joint may feel unbalanced when walking over uneven surfaces.

If you frequently find yourself suffering from ankle pain, discomfort and/or weakness then why not see how we could help? We offer a physiotherapy service as well as orthotics which can help get to the root of ankle instability and provide treatments for recovery.

Do you suffer from pain in your cervical spine? There are a number of causes of pain in the cervical spine, including degeneration and injury. A portion of disc can be pushed back into the spinal canal resulting in a compressed nerve, which can lead to inflammation and a herniated disc. Deposits can build up on the vertebrae, known as spurs, and these can pinch the nerves. The pain usually centers in the neck and arms.
This type of pain is often severe enough to impact on quality of life and can result in lost time from work as well as problems sleeping, problems with mobility and day to day tasks.
If you suffer from frequent pain then it is worth having your cervical spine examined to understand the root cause and prevent any bone, nerve or disc damage.

Ultrasound (sometimes referred to as sonography / Doppler study) is a diagnostic imaging technique that uses high frequency sound waves to produce imagery of internal structures within the body. The sound is transmitted from a device called a transducer which emits sound waves that travel through the skin and bounce off in varying strengths from various organs. The density of tissues, fluids and air within the body will reflect the sound waves in different ways, this variation is what is used to generate imagery.
Ultrasound is popular for a number of diagnostic purposes including pregnancy, finding gallstones and kidney stones, ovarian cysts, uterine growths and more. There are various types of ultrasound including echocardiography, testicular ultrasound, breast ultrasound and more.

At Highgate Private Hospital we offer a comprehensive ultrasound scanning service in a comfortable environment. Learn more about our Ultrasound services at

Could the solution to allergies come from early exposure? As hygiene standards have improved, exposure to germs, dust and allergens have decreased leading to an increase in allergy sufferers.

Scientists and researchers believe that Alzheimer's could be prevented and even cured by helping the brains immune response to bacteria, viruses and other waste / deposits which could contribute towards the onset of the disease. As people age, a protein called EP2 stops Microglia cells from functioning properly allowing amylod-beta plaques to form which damage nerve cells within the brain.

Our lungs can process over two million litres of air every day, without even thinking. Their surface area is large enough to cover one side of a tennis court.

Did you know Chicken Pox is a form of the herpes virus. The virus responsible is called Varicella, this virus can lay dormant in your nerve roots for over 20 years.
