Since this G+ profile is inexplicably high in Google's returns for my name, here's a quick update for anyone who finds it, including the handful of weirdos I know who exclusively use G+, presumably out of some desire to combine the indie cred of using something obscure with the nerd cred of having no friends. :p

My active web presence is on these sites:

Nearly a year later, I still live in SF and work at KIXEYE <http://www.kixeye.com/>. (Yes, all caps. That's how we roll.) My job is awesome. My business-card title here is "Tools Engineer", but what I do, and what my team does, is actually non-game applications development. We work alongside the game studios, the platform and framework engineering teams, the analytics department, and the operations department, building internal webapps and APIs to manage our player base and help keep our players happy. (I've heard that at some other places, the "Tools Engineer" title is for the "junior script monkey" position, but at KIXEYE, it's equivalent to being an SDE at Microsoft/Amazon/Google, and the "Tools" designation is to tell us apart from the game engineers at the same level.) We develop in PHP, Python, and JavaScript, make use of Doctrine, Twig, Flask, jQuery, DataTables, and Bootstrap, among other open-source components, and contribute fixes and features back upstream where we can.

You can play all of our current games on Facebook. These are not cow clickers. They are hard and you will need skills.
* War Commander <https://apps.facebook.com/warcommander/>: Our most recent release. Classic 2D RTS gameplay with MMO territory control. War Commander is what Westwood might have made if EA hadn't eaten them alive before browser games got good.
* Battle Pirates <https://apps.facebook.com/battlepirates/>: MMORTS featuring real-time PvP and PvE combat and allowing psychotic levels of base and fleet customization. I have to give an unofficial shout out here to Ultimate Shipyard <http://bp.tel4u.gr/>, built by one of our players <http://forums.kixeye.com/showthread.php?t=208159>, so you can see how much people will tweak and twiddle their builds to get an edge in combat.
* Backyard Monsters <https://apps.facebook.com/backyardmonsters/>: Genre hybrid that builds from tower defense and monster ranching to strategic empire building on a huge world map. Still going strong with content and gameplay updates after more than two years.

If you've seen the Insanity Wolf ads on the BART, that was us. If you've seen the huge buff unicorn fighting a swarm of nyancats in Powell Street Station, that was us. If you haven't: this is us. The Interview

Presenting the UT2004 Turing Test. Instead of chatting with a human and a computer, now they shoot at you.

It's a problem that could easily be solved: enter a new password when you install the safe, or it won't lock.

Wikileaks has just learned that if stuff leaks to them, it can also leak from them.

"About two-thirds of Republican voters now recognize Mr. Perry’s name..."

Is this kind of low name recognition normal? Do a third of Republican voters not have electricity?

Firefox 7 beta is here to break all my extensions. Instead of checking the version number when deciding to run something, Mozilla's extension mechanism should check for features the extension depends on. Works for graphics code and modern JavaScript.

There's something visually thrilling about spacesuits. Probably that reflective dome where the head should be.

Saw this at PAX on the sixth floor, thought "holy crap, is that a new space combat sim?" and someone handed me a controller. Thirty seconds later, I was slinging missiles at an oncoming capital ship and its flock of escort fighters. Five minutes later, I was afterburning into my own home carrier with a few scraps of hull between me and vacuum. Barely made the landing deck. It's been waaaaay too long. If you liked FreeSpace and Wing Commander, dig up your joystick and start watching for a PC launch (they said most likely Steam). If you've never played those games, think Battlestar Galactica (the space battles, not the soap opera bits).
