I asked the narrator of Jumper and the Bones about writing. Here's what he said:  http://www.clearwaterpublishing.com/alembic/
If you neglect a writing project for too long the characters go feral on you. That voice you'd been following clams up. The path of the plot disappears into shadows and fog; the magic idea that twinkled and fluttered in your peripheral vision stiffens into a scrap of lifeless cardboard.

So, we all have excuses for not blogging. Here are mine:

I haven't checked in here for a while, but I've got excuses. First, obviously, I'm lazy. That's the one trait I seem to share with many great writers. I'd write a blog post about it, but that seems like kind of a bother. Then there were the holidays, which were great.

Interesting. When I google my name one day, I get over 50,000 results. Two days later, I get less than 14,000. I wonder why that is, and I wonder if it matters.

My thoughts on the movie "Anonymous"
Anonymous. November 7th, 2011. For generations, scholars have argued that the unschooled actor named William Shakespeare could not have been the guy who actually wrote the words. The movie “Anonymous”...

Earlier this week, I announced that I would not be running for Republican nominee for President of the United States. Today, I announced I would also not be running for Democratic nominee. I know you're disappointed. I've spelled out my reasoning here:
President Amdahl? October 6th, 2011. I have formally announced that I will NOT be running for Republican nominee for President. Yet people keep asking me about it. Then they ask, “how about as Democra...

I think the folks in Alabama have convinced me. No in-state tuition for children of illegal aliens. Here's my thinking:
http://www.clearwaterpublishing.com/alembic/
Alabama Illegals. October 1st, 2011. According to the new state law, if your parents were illegal immigrants and they brought you to the US when you were a kid, you can't get in-state tuition in A...

I find myself sympathizing with the Occupy Wall Street protesters.
Occupy America. October 14th, 2011. The big objection to the “Occupy Wall Street” protesters seems to be they don't have a solution all ready to go. But isn't that exactly the position all our...

Sometimes I feel like a 19th century guy. I want to be hip, and cool, and with it, but it seems like most people use Twitter, and FB and G+. to promote themselves. Others to promote a cause. Others to blather and repeat what others say. I can promote, and blather pretty well and I like my causes, but I confess I'm having trouble sorting it all out and making sense of it. It seems like much of it is a waste of time. I'd rather read a good book. Is it just me?

Jeremy- It's the triviality of most of the conversation. I decide to "follow" a handful of tweeters or plusers, and get bombarded with goofy nonsense. I try to sort through them, select people to follow more carefully, or people to include in my "circles" and mostly I'm just not interested in the little things they have to say. I'm no better, I can't imagine anyone wanting to listen to me rant. But I'm an author, we're "supposed" to maintain a presence. So yes, it applies to my blog as well. When I write something significant, it reaches a tiny number of folks. So I write something funny, I get more hits. But then, if I don't have anything worth saying for a week and my "audience" disappears. The quantity versus quality thing, that's my issue. But so many people participate, if feels like maybe I need to take a class so I figure out how to reap benefit.

This looks like it will be my best month ever for Ebook sales. No new reviews or other promotions, just the slow accretion of kind "word of mouth" mentions. Thank you.

My iMac was doing some goofy scrolling. I ran Disk Warrior, ran Disk Utilites, cleaned my mouse, repaired preferences, rebuilt my directory and everything else a long time Mac guy would do, but nothing worked. Took it into these guys. They diagnosed the problem as a fried mouse that was sending bad signals to the computer. They could have given me a complicated explanation and charged me a lot, but they didn't. They just said, your mouse is fried, no charge. I bought a new mouse on the way home for 15 bucks and it works fine now. Anyone who identifies the problem quickly and correctly and for free deserves extra credit. i'll use them again and would recommend them to you as well.
