The best crayfish?...

Every five-star restaurant in Anguilla serves a variation of crayfish. Whether it is infused with exotic flavors or simply grilled, wrapped in pasta or stewed in a broth, served with Jasmine rice or rice and peas, there is only one spot that satisfies our Crayfish cravings...

Nat's Palm Grove at Junk's Hole.

Before heading over to Palm Grove, we always give Nat a call to ensure that fresh-from-the-fisherman's-boat crayfish is available. It almost always is.

Nat and his son Theon are consistently perfecting their secret blend of herbs for the sauce. Slathered in a secret buttery-based sauce, and grilled over charcoal, there is simply no better Crayfish recipe in Anguilla.

Juicy and succulent, each piece of meat drips with delicious flavor.

Served with plates of thick, hand-cut steak fries and Johnny Cakes, it is one of the best crayfish meals you can have in Anguilla.

The best hot dog?...

For years, Maria at Arawak has served what my Dad calls the best hot dog on the island. She boils them, then grills them. They are cooked to perfection.

There is another contender in town!... Melinda and Bob Blanchard of Blanchards Beach Shack.

Their hot dogs are 100% Angus beef "flat-top dogs." They are split down the middle and grilled on both sides. With toppings of Peruvian onions, sauerkraut, mustard and served atop a fluffy bun, they rival Arawak for Top Dog!

The best beach for wave action?...

When the seas surge in Anguilla, beaches like Meads Bay and Shoal Bay can produce high waves.

These two beaches put on a good show, especially Meads Bay. In the Western corner of Meads Bay there is a "point-break" wave that sometimes stirs up great surfing on 6-8' waves. Seeing a surfer or two ducking through and riding the waves is another highlight to watching the wave action at Meads Bay.

BUT... The best beach for watching big waves is, hands down, Captain's Bay.

The under-tow at Captain's Bay is dangerously strong. The beach has claimed lives. It is advised to not swim in the waters of Captain's Bay.

This video was taken on a rough winter day, when the waves were well over 15'!...

The best water activity?...

Sailing is Anguilla's national sport and Yuki's favorite water activity.

She loves the sea spray, the ocean breeze in your hair, "trapezing" and "hiking" with the waves passing fast below you.

Now, this might be a controversial "best of," but while I love sailing, Stand Up Paddle-Boarding (SUP) is my favorite Anguilla water activity.

Our good friend and photographer Thierry Dehove took us on an early morning SUP session on Meads Bay. It was a morning I will never forget. The ocean was glassy and still (as many Anguilla beaches are), the morning light and warm, schools of fishing swimming below as we gently glided over the smooth sea.

SUP is a great way to stay in shape, and ideal for many of Anguilla's calm beaches!

The best wharf jump?...

da'Vida (one of our favorite Anguilla restaurants for dinner, sunset tapas AND a beach day) recently installed a floating dock at Crocus Bay.

What a great addition to the beach!

- It makes it easy to get into Crocus Bay's waters (the shore can be lined with pebbles).

- If you are visiting Anguilla via boat, or have a boat in Anguilla, you can dock it on the wharf.

- So many love it to just bask quietly in the sun, undisturbed, rocked by the gentle motion of the waves.

My favorite thing to do on the wharf? Jump off it!

Because it's not very high, even Yuki (who is too scared to jump off the high wharf at Sandy Ground) will jump with me. The water is a little above 5', and so clear and blue.

The swaying of the dock adds to the excitement of the run-and-jump!
