Latest article in Journal of Technology Transfer examines patents at the top 300 universities worldwide. The authors provide "a patent ranking system and an analysis of the determinants of university patenting, to enable an international comparison not only between different countries but also between universities within countries. A ranking of the top-patenting universities shows a huge predominance of US universities: 18 of the top 25 universities are located in the US, with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology being ranked first. The results show that the propensity to apply for patents is very high among US and Asian universities, while European universities lag behind" Read full article here: http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007%2Fs10961-014-9355-x What do you think?

By providing a patent ranking system and an analysis of the determinants of university patenting, we enable an international comparison not only between different countries b...

Just published: Towards #slum free city-strategies and policies: the case of #Delhi http://ow.ly/KtPPz #Springer
This study articulates that the objective of slum free Delhi is less likely to be achieved through the methods of in situ upgrading or by clearing and relocation. On the other hand in situ resettlement in high rise modern buildings is more efficient. This is demonstrated by developing better understanding about the resistance of slum dwellers to move away for settlement, the willingness to pay towards better housing, and economics of land use occ...

We examine whether elections of public prosecutors influence the mix of cases taken to trial versus plea bargained. A theoretical model is constructed wherein voters use outcomes of the criminal justice system as a signal of prosecutors’ quality, leading to a distortion in the mix of cases taken to trial. Using data from North Carolina we test whether reelection pressures lead to (a) an increase in the number and proportion of convictions from ju...

How Much Should Debtors be Punished in Case of #Default? http://ow.ly/KcjD5 #Crisis #Finance #Research
This study investigates the relationship between debtor punishment and the development of the credit market. We empirically analyze how the level of debtor punishment relates to the credit market expansion. We find evidence that an increase in debtor punishment tends to produce a positive effect on credit markets for states with low level of punishment and a negative effect for states with high level of punishment. Hence, there is an intermediate...
