Google Hangouts features coming to UAlberta Google Apps Users

Available to UAlberta Google Apps users on May 14, 2015. Hangouts unifies chats, audio calls, and video meetings in one convenient, easy-to-use application. With the new Hangouts, communication is synchronized across all user devices (Windows/Mac desktops and Android/iOS mobile devices). Start a Hangout on your computer and continue it on your mobile device, create group chats with 2 or more people, send photos in chat and more!

Excited to try? Opt-in through Gmail:
- Click your profile photo at the top of your Chat list in Gmail.
- Click Try the new Hangouts.
- The window will refresh, and you’ll now see pictures next to people’s names instead of just circles.

Google hangouts works well. Has already replaced WhatsApp as our team group communication tool. Love that we can send messages from the desktop and syncs it across multiple devices.

Music done right. Listen to music as it was meant to be heard. ‪#‎techtuesday‬ ‪#‎music‬
Anyone who's ever used a pair of $10 drugstore headphones knows that tinny, bass-free buzz that tells you you're not hearing a song the way it's meant to be heard. Unless you're a true audiophile, though, the exact qualities that define high-quality sound can be harder to pin down. What actually makes something sound good? Here's a quick education in being a smarter listener.

In need of a Macbook or iPad for the day? Try renting one from the nearest vending machine. The Free Library of Philadelphia, alongside Drexel University, are offering students just that—the ability to rent iPads already filled with academic software. #techtuesday http://ow.ly/LyKbq
Drexel University is adding an iPad vending machine in their Dana and David Dornsife Center for Neighborhood Partnerships.

Pac-Man on ‪#‎googlemaps‬ you say? Yes, and we're not even kidding. Rescue your city from Blinky, Pinky, Inky and Clyde. Play now! ‪#‎techtuesday‬
April Fool’s Day is imminent, which means that we’re about to see A) lots of unfunny people making awful attempts to prank everyone; and B) some people—often including big tech companies like Google and Blizzard—creating some brilliant things. Here’s one example of the latter.

Walter feels that the most important part of his job is to make sure that “the tool” will help people at the University’s faculties and units and that people “will see value in the tool applied to their work and move on to the next stage” of the project.

The right tool for the right project: Meet Walter Viale, Functional Financial Analyst and our staff feature this week! http://ow.ly/L0d4h
