Heartbleed Bug: IST would like to inform the University of Alberta community that earlier this week a serious security vulnerability was discovered in OpenSSL that has impacted many organizations that use encrypted SSL protocol for communication. The Heartbleed Bug allows a hacker to gain access to protected content, traffic and user names and passwords. This permits attackers to eavesdrop on communications, steal data directly from the services and users and to impersonate services and users.

IST is aware of this problem and has published a response to the threat. Read more here: http://ist.ualberta.ca/news/heartbleed
