Thanks, First U Dallas, for another fine video from Rev. Aaron White. I really appreciate hearing from him. As often, it saddens me to read the comments section here on YouTube as it does elsewhere online, and to see people telling others that they're practicing their own faith incorrectly. At least with videos like this one, those who have an open mind and ears to hear have the opportunity to learn what we Unitarian Universalists are all about. Thank you again!
I made New Year's resolutions for the first time in, like, forever.

The thing with not wearing a watch is that after the time change I never know whether has updated til I get up and look at a clock.

This short documentary explores how the murder of a white minister in Selma, Ala., helped galvanize support for the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Should all Unitarian Universalists embrace a neutral #humanism? I have said "no". Your thoughts appreciated in the comments section of the blog.

Thank you for sharing that! I would not be where I am today if it weren't for some very beautiful and patient atheist friends. I never want to see them mistreated for their chosen stance. Neither will I stand by and watch people be abused for having a belief or participating in a religion (as we know, not always the same thing). Again, I know too many beautiful caring Jews, Buddhists, Christians, Hindus, Pagans, Muslims, etc.

I feel like I am in a bizarre place where I am trying to defend everyone, but end up being seen as always on the wrong side. On Google+ I most frequently defend people with faiths. On Facebook I most frequently defend people with no faith. My head feels like it is spinning some times. But I refuse to reject people because it is fashionable or traditional to hate certain sorts.

Celebrate the return of the Sun!

This evening at 7PM, the First Unitarian Church of Baltimore celebrates the season with a Winter Solstice Ritual to which you are all invited. My husband and I will be turning the wheel of the year to usher in winter and welcome the return of the Light of the World.

"Be still. Honor the dark. Light the New Year fire. Turn the Wheel of the Year. Enjoy songs, poetry, drama, ritual. Taste the sweetness of life. Bless the newborn babes. Greet the returning Sun."

This ritual is taken, in part from In Nature's Honor: Myths and Rituals Celebrating the Earth by Patricia Montley, whose op-ed pieces on seasonal holidays have appeared in The Baltimore Sun.

If your internet connection is better than mine, you can watch a clip of Pat on WJZ from last week for a taste of what to expect:

Happy Holidays! Come on out if you're free this evening. :-)

Ex pluribus unum - One from many
I speak French. And German. And...Esperanto.  And a bunch of other things. I like music of all sorts, foreign cuisines, and religious studies. I need to sleep...and write some blogs...and do some reading...then I will update this into a proper introduction.

P.S. I'm superduper gay and an ardent advocate for equal rights for all people. And oh yeah - I'm a pretty hardcore Unitarian Universalist. :-)
