I'm finishing up the new book this weekend on the Knife (straight blade) and I need your help choosing a cover. The layout will be similar to the Karambit. Let me know which one you like A, B, C or D

Week 10 - Block and Counter with Double Sticks

Double Stick Block & Counter
Double stick training can be fun, flashy and exciting, but it is also very difficult if you have not been working both of your hands with your single stick training. Most students start with basic strikes, blocking, twirling and then on to Abecedario (A, B, C's) and Sinawali (weaving) drills.

Blocking is done the same way whether you have a single stick, double stick, knife, sword or empty hand. That is the beauty of the Filipino martial arts. Today we will work on a few basic blocks such as a Deflection, Shield and Roof block along with a few counters. Watch carefully how the 'blocks' are not actually blocking the incoming strike, but attacking the limb holding the weapon in order to cause damage or get him to drop his weapon.

The counter attacks are swift, with no hesitation. If you are practicing with a partner be sure to use control, but if you are working on your own you can add more power to your blocks and strikes. Be aware or your non-striking hand, keep it close to the body for blocking and Use Your Footwork!!
