Driving is definitely one of the often overlooked safety and cost bases within organisations. And the safety aspect of driving is often profiled to reduce associated costs of accidents, rather than to primarily improve driver safety. BUT, there is a shift in the market happening, and the more progressive, health and safety focused organisations are starting to embrace a safety first mentality when it comes to driving.

As a separate point on Telematics - Telematics doesn't need to be used punitively. It is very useful in understanding high risk drivers - and many will address these drivers directly in a punitive manner. But there are other ways of utilising the data to provide non-biased feedback that in some cases may be only seen by the drivers themselves, providing self-led awareness and opportunity for changes in behaviour. There have even been cases where organisations gamify this data, providing a carrot rather than a stick by rewarding drivers with low risk profiles, and providing an incentive to minimise risks, and change driver behaviour.
