It's not always the best bar to stop at, or the best bar to watch sports at. But it is the best bar to watch sports at while browsing the liquor list and discovering a new favorite. Food is always good quality and the service is usually just fine.

As a first timer, I have to assume the place caters to, and coddles frequent fliers, rather than those who will spread kind words to new prospective guests. All in all, the patrons of Paddy's were much more insufferable than the prices, (which, within the confines of "happy hour" were about a dollar+.5 more than most places in the area for significantly smaller portions) A packed bar usually signifies a decent place to get a drink and a good after-work snack, but the only open seat at said bar, was refused to me by a middle aged woman (who later identified herself as a regular) upon grounds that there was someone slated to join her in drinking away her sorrows. About 1.5 hours later, after switching from a dining table for 4, (which I had occupied as only myself) to a more appropriate, recently vacated barstool to consume a meager portion of half-seasoned garlic fries, still nobody would dare to be seen with this shrew. Yet, the bartender and staff seemed to harken to every simple-minded beck and call, completely ignoring any of my own requests, until this woman's needs for conversation were met, as if she had mothered all of them at the same time. When I did finish my beer, I was promptly shooed out by the bartender without even being asked if I had been interested in another... Regardless, I left a tip and took my leave, knowing that a %40 gratuity would be the last thing would ever give to this place. As a chef, and a veteran provider of customer service, I personally would never recommend this place to anyone based on this experience. I am surprised that favoritism of reduculous (yet repeat) guests, over new and practical patrons has held out the way it has in Portland, especially due to the massive amount of choices that are available to the reasonable public. I will not be making this a regular after-work watering hole and I highly suggest everyone who values a good vibe, stear as far clear as you possibly can as well. (I want to conclude, that the wait-staff is far better-mannered than the rest of the inhabitants of this pub, and all deserve to be treated much better than their extremely distasteful work-uniforms suggest they are treated) Really though, if you must visit a Portland Irish bar, go to Kells instead - much better service, much better food, MUCH better atmosphere.

I came here in June for a getaway weekend with friends. I was in awe at their liquor selection. I planned my next road trip to have a stop here. I'll be there in about 30 minutes.

Food was pretty good, not a huge fan of the oyster chowder. Service was decent.

Whenever anyone visits I always make sure to swing by this place. Their selection has to be seen to believe, its incredible. The staff and service has always been great, even on busy days.

We tried to give this place the benefit of the doubt, will never do that again. We went out of our way to drive here, really out of our way to give it a chance. Our drinks were not served before our meal or with our meal, but into our meal. Instead we were told that our bottled ciders were not chilled and that's why they were not served. So they recommended another cider on tap which cost $1.50 more per drink, but they didn't have the courtesy to tell us before they charged us more. So an establishment such as this cannot have their bottled ciders chilled, ready to go? Really? With all those fancy bottles decorating the wall, they cannot have a bottled cider chilled and ready? Had it been my bar, I would have charged them the price of what we originally ordered if I didn't have the beverage ready to be served. The food was ok. The corned beef with cabbage was not up their with the others we've tried. It was less than average. The fish and chips were ok, the oil, not sure about. I liked the cole slaw and the fries. The service was slow. There was a waitress that went out of her way to help us, and I appreciate that since the other waitress couldn't really sense that we were done and needed the bill. Instead, we had to walk up to pay and mind you, we were not rushing. Again, the service was slow. We would not return. Where is food with soul? Hard to find anymore.
