Another piece of writing that puts an argumen I make better than I usually make it.

I have just uploaded the last of the Capricci in Musica a tre Voci (1564) by Vincenzo Ruffo to the <http://SerpentPublications.org> website.  They will eventually be published in book form, but if you want to download them one by one, they're all there now.

We've been finding that going through one of them very methodically (playing one part in unison, and then each pair of parts with more than one person to a part and finally all the parts together) at the beginning of rehearsal is really good for getting the less experienced people to concentrate well for the rest of the rehearsal.

Two new posts up on my blog.  <http://serpentpublications.org/laymusic/?p=3339> discusses how I plan to revive the diary-like aspect of the blog, and <http://serpentpublications.org/laymusic/?p=3341> is a list of books I read in the last month or so.

In the course of discussions leading up to the recent election, there were a couple of subjects on which I didn't explain what I feel as well as I would have liked to.  Here are a couple of links to articles that are better written than my oral arguments were:

Here's one that explains better than I can why I blanked the physician-assisted suicide question: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/01/opinion/suicide-by-choice-not-so-fast.html

And here's one that's a good argument to make if you know a Catholic who would rather vote for  Democrats, but is worried about voting for abortion: http://latikaroy.org/jo/2012/11/anti-abortion-pro-obama/

I'm not going to point to every individual post here, but I've gone back to writing a post of some kind to my blog every day. I did it a few years ago , and I found it helpful in figuring out what I was interested in working on. In any case, if you're feeling basically unproductive, it's helpful to have a very limited easy goal (write a few paragraphs about something you're interested in) for the first thing you do in the morning.

I don't suppose anyone will see this, since it looks like I'll never see anything they post, either, but does anyone know how to change the new sort order for the Google+ Home/All page?  It seems to put my posts first (which I don't need to see, since I wrote them), and then to sort the others by which circle they're in, instead of putting the most recent things first.  So unless I click on each circle separately, I'll never see anyone's posts by just looking at the Google+ Home page.  Are other people using this differently from the way I am?  Is there something useful to do with Google+ besides seeing what the people you're following wanted to post?  Is there an easy way to just add all the people in your circles to one big circle and then look at that?  Does it make sense to do that even if it is easy?

It seems to be back behaving normally.  I'm still seeing all my old posts before all of other people's old posts, but some other people's new posts have appeared above my old posts.

I also lost the "provide feedback" button that used to be on every screen, so it isn't because of my feedback that they fixed whatever was wrong.

Watched Wimbledon on TV last night.  The channel I watched it on billed it as a romantic comedy, but it's actually a better sports movie than it is a romantic comedy.   Neither the conflict nor the resolution of the romantic interest makes much sense (the conflict is: if a man and a woman both have important matches the next day, and he wants to sleep with her as preparation and she wants to not sleep with him as preparation, is it right for him to sneak into her bedroom?  (Spoilers ahead) The resolution is that he apologizes on national TV for having done it, and they get married and have children.   But the voiceovers as he faces big points in the Wimbledon final are quite suspenseful.  Not that you believe for one minute that either Paul Betheny or Kirsten Dunst could play professional level tennis.

You're all invited to my party on New Years Day, starting at 4 PM.  The link is an official invitation, which is the closest thing I get to sending out Christmas cards, and has all the details.

It's just a ballet competition film.  So if you like watching ballet dancing, you'll enjoy it and otherwise not.

The reason I'm posting this is that Netflix released both the DVD and the streaming release at the same time, and I was originally a little annoyed that I got the DVD, but then I realized that there isn't really enough dancing in the movie, and the DVD has extras with complete (2-3 minute) performances and the streaming release wouldn't.  So if you want to watch the dancing, get the DVD.
