Freaking amazing food. Instead of getting the arepa, get the cachapa. It's a couple more dollars for pretty much double the food and it's basically an arepa. Yellow sweet corn is the best. Also try the yuca frita!

Wow, Alberto -- I'm so happy to see you're a big fan of the cachapas and the yuca fries! I hope you'll make it in here soon to try some more of our great options. -Adriana, Owner

As a wheat-free foodie (allergy reasons not health fad), this naturally wheat free place caught my eye and I was really hoping it would live up to my expectations. It really did! Their meat was perfectly seasoned, the corn tortillas tasty and thick but not chewy, and the portions were much bigger than you need to be satisfied. My favs were the pulled pork nachos (those plantain and taro chips are to die for), and the spicy chicken arepa. Definitely will be back to try the rest of the menu!

You made some great choices on the menu, Dot! We're proud to be 100% gluten free, and we're happy to give you the peace of mind knowing that cross contamination isn't an issue here. I'm thrilled you liked everything, and I hope you'll be back soon. Might I suggest trying the pulled pork arepa next time you're here? I think you'll love it! -Adriana, Owner

Update March 2015: I've been disappointed the last few times I've had food from Pica Pica. The fillings are missing seasoning and taste bland. I'm not sure what happened :( Updating my review from 5 stars to 3 Original review: Pica Pica's arepas are tasty and really filling. I usually get a combo with the Pelu'a and yucca (cassava) fries. The staff are always warm even when the small storefront is packed. I can survive on one combo for an entire day, that's what I call value! :-P Fresh ingredients, well prepared, and fast.

Jordan, this doesn't sounds like us at all, so I apologize that we haven't given you our best. None of our recipes or methods have changed, so I'm surprised you've tasted anything different. I would still love to have you back in so we can show you the perfect experience you had the first time. -Adriana, Owner

Oh gosh - I can't wait to go back! The shredded beef arepa is savory and sweet and perfect in every way. Super friendly staff, convenient to Bart, laid-back place. The food was more filling than I expected - I only wanted more because it was so tasty.

Delicious food, huge portions, and the service was great! It's always nice to have cashiers with great attitudes and a sense of humor. It gets a bit busy at times, but the turn over is pretty fast so even if there is a line, it won't take long to get a seat or to take it to go. They also serve some beers which go well with the food!
Response from the owner - 3 months ago
You always deserve a great meal from start to finish, James! I know it can get a little busy here, but we love the community atmosphere that delicious food always creates -- even in our space. My team and I are always here to make sure that everything is perfect for you, and we can't wait to have you in again soon! -Adriana, Owner

Loved the spicy chicken cachapa, although I'm not sure where the 'spicy' part was. Add a dab of mojo sauce and your good to go. The garlic yuka fries were awesome too.

My roommate and I were attending Sunday Streets at the Mission. After a good walk, we got hungry. We happened to pass by Pica Pica and I was intrigued. I've never had an arepa before, so I took the opportunity to try one. The restaurant is small, and there's not much seating. I find that it's more of a place for a quick bite. I ordered the vegetarian which came with plantains, black beans, grilled tofu, avocado, and a garlic aioli. It was so delicious!! Black beans with plantains is my favorite food combination, and the avocado was an upgrade. The arepa was just right to satisfy my hunger. I also ordered mango juice, and it refreshing on a warm sunny day. My roommate and I split yucca fries as well. I highly recommend this place if you want a quick, satisfying meal.
