Delicious food, huge portions, and the service was great! It's always nice to have cashiers with great attitudes and a sense of humor. It gets a bit busy at times, but the turn over is pretty fast so even if there is a line, it won't take long to get a seat or to take it to go. They also serve some beers which go well with the food!

You always deserve a great meal from start to finish, James! I know it can get a little busy here, but we love the community atmosphere that delicious food always creates -- even in our space. My team and I are always here to make sure that everything is perfect for you, and we can't wait to have you in again soon! -Adriana, Owner

Update March 2015: I've been disappointed the last few times I've had food from Pica Pica. The fillings are missing seasoning and taste bland. I'm not sure what happened :( Updating my review from 5 stars to 3 Original review: Pica Pica's arepas are tasty and really filling. I usually get a combo with the Pelu'a and yucca (cassava) fries. The staff are always warm even when the small storefront is packed. I can survive on one combo for an entire day, that's what I call value! :-P Fresh ingredients, well prepared, and fast.

Jordan, this doesn't sounds like us at all, so I apologize that we haven't given you our best. None of our recipes or methods have changed, so I'm surprised you've tasted anything different. I would still love to have you back in so we can show you the perfect experience you had the first time. -Adriana, Owner

Fast casual dining and friendly staff. I'll definitely be back to try the nachos and ceviche!
Response from the owner - a month ago
Great choices there, Max! I'd be happy to see you back again soon for another round -- don't worry, the nachos aren't going anywhere. -Adriana, Owner

This place is over-priced. I got one arepa and it cost $8! The corn on the outside was dry and flavorless, and the filling taste was pretty bland -- I like using salsa and sauces to complement good flavors, not make a boring dish interesting.
Response from the owner - 6 months ago
Jen, it's such a shame to see you felt this way about your arepa. It should have been flavorful and delicious! As far as our salsas go, I agree -- they should complement the spices in our dishes, not stand in for them. I can only hope you had a chance to bring this to one of our staff. We always want you to leave feeling great about our food, and we would have happily looked into this for you. - Adriana, Owner

Loved the spicy chicken cachapa, although I'm not sure where the 'spicy' part was. Add a dab of mojo sauce and your good to go. The garlic yuka fries were awesome too.

Thomas, it's great you got to try the spicy chicken cachapa -- I'm really happy you enjoyed it! We have sauces, like the mojo sauce, so you can create something personalized to your taste. Hope to see you back for another one soon! -Adriana, Owner

My roommate and I were attending Sunday Streets at the Mission. After a good walk, we got hungry. We happened to pass by Pica Pica and I was intrigued. I've never had an arepa before, so I took the opportunity to try one. The restaurant is small, and there's not much seating. I find that it's more of a place for a quick bite. I ordered the vegetarian which came with plantains, black beans, grilled tofu, avocado, and a garlic aioli. It was so delicious!! Black beans with plantains is my favorite food combination, and the avocado was an upgrade. The arepa was just right to satisfy my hunger. I also ordered mango juice, and it refreshing on a warm sunny day. My roommate and I split yucca fries as well. I highly recommend this place if you want a quick, satisfying meal.

I've been here twice, and totally recommend the arepas. There are two things that prevent this from being a 5 star review. Both times they seemed under staffed and the wait was around 30 minutes for not much food. Still I'd definitely come back if I wasn't in a hurry on a lazy Sunday. Second, the hot sauces are more on the sweet than savory side which I'm not into, but you might like.
Response from the owner - 8 months ago
So glad to hear you're an arepa fan, Jim! It's disappointing to hear that we weren't able to take care of you in a timely fashion, but please know that any extra time is invested in making you awesome food. Hope to see you on a lazy Sunday! - Adriana, Owner

Have you ever tried Venezuelan or Colombian cuisine? Better yet, have you ever tried an arepa? Well, you should. And good news- this is the place to do it. Arepas are a typical food found in Venezuela- it looks like an empanada, but imagine much fresher flavors & the surprising "sabor" of corn masa combining with the juicy avocado, meat, beans, cheese, or other "fillings" you choose to enjoy. "Filling" may not sound like the most mouthwatering-inducing word, but with these arepas you will be in foodie heaven. They have other tropical-inspired dishes & drinks, and decent prices. Highly recommended.
