it's certainly no secret that i enjoy cigars. figured it was time for an explanation:
I intend to smoke a good cigar to the glory of God before I go to bed tonight. – Charles Spurgeon I love good cigars. The taste of a long-filler, hand-rolled premium cigar is, to my pallet, simply sublime. I enjoy the craft of a good cigar (not the cheap-o machine made dogs). I revel…

our first "Youth Ministry in a Post-Christian Context" YMCP cohort wrapped up recently, and was so good. so we decided to make a few small improvements and try it again. this is a hybrid cohort, with less travel involved than some of our cohorts (and a little less cost). check out the details:
At The Youth Cartel, our flagship program--the Youth Ministry Coaching Program--is experiencing some amazing growth. With more than 250 graduates now, we continue to refine and tweak and see massive transformation in the lives of participants and their ministries. Just the other day, a fairly recent grad who has simultaneously jumped into our Level 2…

The Youth Cartel is partnering with Ministry Architects to offer a very unique cohort of our Youth Ministry Coaching Program, leveraging the strengths of both organizations. Check out some of the details:

been wrestling with how to end well with my 8th grade guys small group (considering that we rarely feel like we're accomplishing much). here's how me and my co-leader are re-orienting these last few weeks:
my middle school guys small group has been...uh...challenging this year. i think i could summarize it best with: i really like each of the guys individually; but i don't like them much collectively. i come to consider it a 'good night' when we have a 5 - 10 minute bit of focus and honesty (out…

i'm excited that the Cartel now has four fantastic and unique devotionals that teenagers would actually want to use. i think these puppies are perfect for summer use in youth ministry:
with the recent release of two very unique devotionals for teenagers, the Cartel now has four excellent options. i think each of these would be fantastic for a variety of summer youth ministry programming: weekly program students completing on their own (since they have more time in the summer) as an aspect of summer camp,…

one of the Cartel's unwavering commitments is our support of women in youth ministry. and while most of our YMCP cohorts are a mix of women and men, we've seen that there's great value in offering a YMCP cohort exclusively for women. SO i'm pumped that we're doing this a 3rd time. Women in youth min, check it:

Day 2 of new YMCP cohort summaries. I have seen an explosion of churches moving to a multi-site approach; and the youth workers at these churches are often left scrambling, trying to figure out values and structures and the question of uniformity or diversity. SO: Kurt Johnston, head of youth ministries for the 17 campuses of Saddleback Church, and i will be co-leading the Multi-Site Church Youth Ministry cohort of YMCP. read more about it here:

completely non-birthday-related, i wrote a bit about the values driving my church's middle school ministry in this season (which provides a case study of how i think ministry values should be written!):
if you read my blog much, you know i talk and write a lot about leading from values. it's a central theme in our Youth Ministry Coaching Program. i define values as the answer to the question: What is God calling us to embody in this season? (and by season, i mean: this chapter of…

here's a little more detail on the homemade discussion dice i just cobbled together for my 8th grade guys small group tonight: http://whyismarko.com/discussion-dice/
i was trying to think of a creative way to get my 8th grade guys talking about their hopes and fears for the summer, their freshman years and beyond. this week is our final regular small group meeting (we have a small group party next week); and, as i've posted before, this group has been…

yesterday, i suggested 4 excellent teen devotionals for summer use; today i'm suggesting 3 fantastic graduation gifts that youth ministries should consider (or parents, for that matter):
we have a few resources either published by The Youth Cartel, or developed by me (marko) and sold by The Youth Cartel, that are worth your consideration as graduation gifts (either for individual students, or for a youth group context). as is always the case with stuff we sell in our store, excellent bulk pricing…
