Update on the all-new, up-coming Boeing 777-9X, as of Sat., 12 Nov., 2016:

In this post, I shall be discussing the characteristics of the all-new advanced, supercritical aerofoil of the Boeing 777 8X & 9X series.

For those of us who've been following Boeing's plans in going ahead with the all-new 777-8 & 9X, we have also been up on just about every publication of this planned amazing new jet, as well as every little design modification which Boeing has released about this new design.

The original Boeing 777-200 of which United Airlines was the launch customer of, Boeing has made several other variants of the -200, to suit the market, since the then-new plane first entered service with UAL in June, 1995. There was the -300 series, the -300ER, (Extended Range) and the -200LR. (Long Range) variant, which DL (Delta Airlines) began operating.

One area of new aircraft designs which I'm always keen upon keeping an eye on, are the more technical aspects of the aerodynamics, having to do with the wings, which include any possible new changes in the wing's chamber
(thickness of the wing) or if there might be any new additions of extra flaps, or flap canoe fairings, (prominent, bulbous, 'shell-macaroni'-shaped protrusions which stick out from behind the trailing edge of each wing, which house the hydraulic flap actuation mechanisms)
as well as if there have been any lengthening of the wings. I also check to see if any other aerodynamic-related changes have been made to the wing design; if perhaps in some cases where the engines might be situated underneath of the wings, if perhaps those engines might have been portrayed as enlarged, shortened, or if even perhaps there may have been any minute changes in the shape of the engine pylons.
(The aerodynamic fairing which attaches the engine to the wing)

One of the fascinating points of detail which I've noted particularly about the B-777X series, is where it appears that Boeing has gone from 2 to 4 outboard trailing edge flap canoe fairings, which as I have mentioned up top, protrude out from behind the outboard trailing edge flap. In noticing this notable design change where Boeing has chosen to have opted from going from 2 to 4 extra canoe fairings/flap track fairings, is where Boeing has also widened each one of those pronounced fairings, where in this new type of design, distribute the pressure in a more aerodynamically efficient manner underneath of the wing, which in turn, has a positive 'domino-effect' (as they say) of the pressure, which flows over the top of this new wing design.

One other truly fascinating point of detail which I've noted in some of the artist renditions, and models which Boeing has released to the general media, is where instead of the typical single outboard trailing edge flap design, it appears that Boeing has now opted for a DUAL outboard trailing edge flap design, where both the outboard portion of the outboard trailing edge flap and the inboard portion of the outboard trailing flap, each get supported by 2 flap hydraulic canoe fairings(!) Now... this is truly very exciting for me to notice these changes, because it tells me that the aerodynamicists who're hard at work over there at Boeing, are developing some type of 'active load distribution' for this new wing, where either one of the two trailing edge flaps will ADJUST IN FLIGHT, according to the varying speeds at which the aircraft is flying.
(Hence, the different flight regimes which is a more technical term to be used)

So really, what we have is a split outboard trailing edge flap, which I am almost absolutely positive, will have a variable camber(!) The one thing which I've read as of November, 2016 from Boeing, is that the split flap configuration reduces an aerodynamic phenomenon called:
'Flutter'.
I'm not sure why a solid outboard flap config. would cause that to happen on this new enlarged wing, but I would really love to find out.

The only other style flap arrangement which I know of which utilizes this clever technology, is both the Boeing 787 with it's drooping spoiler mechanism, and the Airbus A350XWB, which has the ability of adjusting the outboard flap according to the varying flight regimes, hence making for a more fuel efficient flight.

I will therefore be posting some artist renditions of the original 777X design representations, as well as the more up to date artist renditions and models, which will show the subtle design changes as time goes on, and as the amazing new Boeing 777X project moves forward from the design stage, to the assembly stage.

Enjoy, and do keep in touch!

This Day in Aviation History
November 18th 1978
First flight of the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet.

The McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) F/A-18 Hornet is a twin-engine supersonic, all-weather carrier-capable multirole combat jet, designed as both a fighter and attack aircraft (F/A designation for Fighter/Attack). Designed by McDonnell Douglas and Northrop, the F/A-18 was derived from the latter's YF-17 in the 1970s for use by the United States Navy and Marine Corps. The Hornet is also used by the air forces of several other nations. The U.S. Navy's Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels, has used the Hornet since 1986.

The F/A-18 has a top speed of Mach 1.8 (1,034 knots, 1,190 mph or 1,915 km/h at 40,000 ft or 12,190 m). It can carry a wide variety of bombs and missiles, including air-to-air and air-to-ground, supplemented by the 20 mm M61 Vulcan cannon. It is powered by two General Electric F404 turbofan engines, which give the aircraft a high thrust-to-weight ratio. The F/A-18 has excellent aerodynamic characteristics, primarily attributed to its leading edge extensions (LEX). The fighter's primary missions are fighter escort, fleet air defense, Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses (SEAD), air interdiction, close air support and aerial reconnaissance. Its versatility and reliability have proven it to be a valuable carrier asset, though it has been criticized for its lack of range and payload compared to its earlier contemporaries, such as the Grumman F-14 Tomcat in the fighter and strike fighter role, and the Grumman A-6 Intruder and LTV A-7 Corsair II in the attack role.....

Soyuz vs Supermoon
http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap161117.html

Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, this Soyuz rocket stands on the launch pad at Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on November 14. Beyond it rises a supermoon, but fame for exceptional feats of speed, strength, and agility is not the reason November's Full Moon was given this popular name. Instead, whenever a Full Moon shines near perigee, the closest point in its elliptical orbit around Earth, it appears larger and brighter than other more distant Full Moons, and so a supermoon is born. In fact, November's supermoon was the second of three consecutive supermoons in 2016. It was also the closest and most superest Full Moon since 1948. Meanwhile, the mild mannered Soyuz rocket is scheduled to launch its Expedition 50/51 crew to the International Space Station today, November 17.

This Day in Aviation History
November 29th, 1995
First flight of the Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet.

The Boeing F/A-18E Super Hornet and related twin-seat F/A-18F are twin-engine carrier-capable multirole fighter aircraft variants based on the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet. The F/A-18E single-seat and F/A-18F tandem-seat variants are larger and more advanced derivatives of the F/A-18C and D Hornet. The Super Hornet has an internal 20 mm M61 rotary cannon and can carry air-to-air missiles and air-to-surface weapons. Additional fuel can be carried in up to five external fuel tanks and the aircraft can be configured as an airborne tanker by adding an external air refueling system.

Designed and initially produced by McDonnell Douglas, the Super Hornet first flew in 1995. Full-rate production began in September 1997, after the merger of McDonnell Douglas and Boeing the previous month. The Super Hornet entered service with the United States Navy in 1999, replacing the Grumman F-14 Tomcat, which was retired in 2006; the Super Hornet serves alongside the original Hornet. The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), which has operated the F/A-18A as its main fighter since 1984, ordered the F/A-18F in 2007 to replace its aging F-111 fleet. RAAF Super Hornets entered service in December 2010.....

Poor white people. So picked on. Not.
I'm so glad this is a meme. But the answer is still "Noooo, because 1) Trump is white, 2) the power-behind-the-throne people at Fox like Mr Trump (oh, sure, they bash him publicly, but they're still in bed with him)." ...
