Mr. Outdoors, +Chris Townsend is about to launch his new book - Grizzly Bears and Razor Clams - an account of his Pacific Northwest Trail hike.

Chris is always an active outdoor person and never hesitates to answer questions and offer advice.

I wish him well with the new book.

A great idea from Coleman. Adjustable sleeping bags.
The Coleman® Adjustable Comfort Sleeping Bag allows you to stay comfortable in any weather condition! It has multiple adjustable layers so you can sleep nice and cozy in temperatures ranging from 30°F to 70°F. The layers are divided so you can cover just your feet and legs, just your torso, or unzip the cover completely and have a lightweight sheet for warm nights. I'm more of a meat and veg man myself, but here are some good DIY lightweight food ideas...
My cheap dehydrated meals for backpacking. Decent amount of calories, yet still low weight and low price!

Now thats what I call a hammock - long way for a pee in the middle of the night though!
A Hammock Tent: Camping in the Trees

Now that’s how camping is done! The tent is made by Tentsile and uses an inverted tripod shape for stability while you sleep in the arms. Now you don’t have to worry about flash flood, wild animals or avalanches!

I think we forget sometimes in the UK that things can still go wrong, even on a simple day trip. I would never rely on something electrical (not even a torch) when out and about. In this case two things failed...
I took a few things away from this incident.

1. Make sure your batteries are changed

2. Carry spare batteries

3. Where possible, don't rely on electronic devices, i.e. carry a map and compass as well and know how to use them

Are there any other things to learn from this incident?

Wild camping near Otley with no tent, in the snow...

I've finally found the time to update my blog with our winter wonderland wild camp from the beginning February when it snowed.

We decided not to take a tent and see if we could survive the cold (-6C) with a hand made shelter.

Find out how we got on...

Complete at last!

Finally my GrillTop Stove arrived today plus the Nalgene Canteen. With the GI Mug and the Heavy Cover lid, this is a very versatile cook set for Wild Camping.

Now I just need an opportunity to put it all to the test.

A bit of grey area surrounds just how 'wild camping' this Jeep accessory is, but I for one am smitten!
