A great idea from Coleman. Adjustable sleeping bags.

The Coleman® Adjustable Comfort Sleeping Bag allows you to stay comfortable in any weather condition! It has multiple adjustable layers so you can sleep nice and cozy in temperatures ranging from 30°F to 70°F. The layers are divided so you can cover just your feet and legs, just your torso, or unzip the cover completely and have a lightweight sheet for warm nights. Learn more about this sleeping bag and get yours today: http://bitly.com/HMptov

I think we forget sometimes in the UK that things can still go wrong, even on a simple day trip. I would never rely on something electrical (not even a torch) when out and about. In this case two things failed...

I took a few things away from this incident.

1. Make sure your batteries are changed

2. Carry spare batteries

3. Where possible, don't rely on electronic devices, i.e. carry a map and compass as well and know how to use them

Are there any other things to learn from this incident?
A man was rescued after getting lost on a hillside when his GPS battery went flat. The 48-year-old from Chester set out from Capel Curig in Snowdonia at the weekend and headed for the area around L...

I think relying on any electronics when out and about is daft.
All it takes is a hefty knock, bit of water or yep batteries running out and you're on your own.  Im seeing more and more people just jump straight on a GPS system rather than getting to learn a map and compass skills and then crying when they have to rely on more conventional methods or just don't have the skills at all.

Wild camping near Otley with no tent, in the snow...

I've finally found the time to update my blog with our winter wonderland wild camp from the beginning February when it snowed.

We decided not to take a tent and see if we could survive the cold (-6C) with a hand made shelter.

Find out how we got on...
My New Years resolution was to get at least one wild camp per month in this year. It clearly got off to a great start which is why I decided to head out into the snow in February for my first wild cam...

A bit of grey area surrounds just how 'wild camping' this Jeep accessory is, but I for one am smitten!
When you're done with a day of off-roading, just pop the top and relax

Here is the first of the 'places to wild camp i the UK' posts and it's one of my favourite spots.
One of my all time favourite places for wild camping is Port Logan Bay on the Mull of Galloway, Scotland. View Larger Map. Port Logan is an ideal site for beginners to try their hand at wild camping a...

Hi James. Sorry, been away from the blog for a while. Try a hammock and tarp. All you need then are trees or posts or rocks!

Mr. Outdoors, +Chris Townsend is about to launch his new book - Grizzly Bears and Razor Clams - an account of his Pacific Northwest Trail hike.

Chris is always an active outdoor person and never hesitates to answer questions and offer advice.

I wish him well with the new book.

Now thats what I call a hammock - long way for a pee in the middle of the night though!

A Hammock Tent: Camping in the Trees

Now that’s how camping is done! The tent is made by Tentsile and uses an inverted tripod shape for stability while you sleep in the arms. Now you don’t have to worry about flash flood, wild animals or avalanches!

Complete at last!

Finally my GrillTop Stove arrived today plus the Nalgene Canteen. With the GI Mug and the Heavy Cover lid, this is a very versatile cook set for Wild Camping.

Now I just need an opportunity to put it all to the test.
