I've both tried it and seen it on Saturday Night Fever.  Basically the difference is that Chicago style can be many types of meals whereas thin crust is like what's found in any frozen grocery section.  Albeit with better ingredients (better forget some of those boroughs) and more of the Italian seasoning triad.

Chicago style / deep dish can be pizza, a form of lasagna or even tomato stew.  The crust can break off for dipping and the bottom of the deep dish is surprisingly thin.  Ever bury a whole Italian sausage in a flat crust, obviously not.

My third point is, if you ask any chef; flavors marry into a better complexity if a dish is allowed time.  Deep dish leftovers are even deeper in flavor.  Whereas a NY thin crust will just be either dried or soggy (over salted) cardboard the next day.

So maybe instead of excellent you meant good for people who don't know the difference.  Btw, Argentina has an excellent pizza tradition too.  California has what it has, they use the term pizza loosely.
