Can a loan shark take you to court? A reader asked me this last week so I have been talking to the National Illegal Money Lending team to get their advice on this and other questions about loan sharks.

Anyone else seeing that the number of post revisions seemed to have shot up recently? I though wordpress was only supposed to keep one autosave, but mine now seems to be keeping them all!

I'm pretty sure it keeps 10 revisions and has been doing so for a while now.

My last debt news round up of 2016 - including articles on how to count the cost of poverty to the economy, millions being charged for basic bank accounts that should be free and yet more Vodafone woes. #debt http://debtcamel.co.uk/debt-news-18-december/
How long do people stay debt free, millions still charged for basic bank accounts, more Vodafone woes, and how much does poverty cost the UK?

Can you get a refund of interest from a catalogue or credit card company? Possibly if the lender didn't make adequate affordability checks before giving you an account or later increasing your credit limit.

Rather than write a serious article about payday lender complaint handling, I thought I would pick out some of the lenders' excuses and readers' comments that made me smile this year. After all, many Debt Camel readers are having a much better Xmas because of refunds they have received!

A reader asked why some debts show as Settled and some show as Satisfied on his credit record - and which is best?

People in debt tend to get into more problems not because they are useless with money, but because they are caught in the scarcity trap.
That's the conclusion of Scarcity by Sendhil Mullainathan and Eldar Shafir. It explores how people who are short of money, time, on a strict diet etc all make the same sort of "poor" decisions that get you through this week/month but make life worse the month after.
