Identity thieves refer to trash day as cash day because it is the day of the week when they can prowl neighborhoods looking for trash to turn into cash. Fortunately, identity theft resulting from items stolen from the trash is the easiest type of crime to prevent. By simply shredding any document, receipt, address label, or piece of paper with identifying information like account numbers, we can stop identity thieves in their tracks.

Don't forget to recycle your textiles this weekend at 1450 Ocean during the Repair Cafe. A convenient drop off area will be made available in front of the building. Bring your clothing to add to the mountain!

If it’s broke, fix it! Come to the City of Santa Monica’s Repair Café at 1450 Ocean on Saturday, December 13, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to learn how to fix common household items. Experienced volunteers, known as “Fixers” will be there to offer their expertise.

Hosted by the Resource Recovery & Recycling Division, the Repair Café will focus on repair and reuse as part of our Zero Waste Strategic Plan. We throw away an incredible amount of stuff everyday - but imagine extending the life of your items at little to no cost! Saving used items from landfills is key to reducing our waste.

Bring torn clothes, books, broken furniture, electrical appliances, bicycles, computers, and toys. The Repair Café Fixers are experienced electricians, seamstresses, carpenters, and more. They will offer instruction, tools and materials to fix what you need repaired.

This event brings together 1450 Ocean's Free Craft Lounge, where all are invited to work on craft projects, and our biannual Repair Cafe, which brings together community experts with those seeking to learn how to repair common household items.

Call for volunteers!

#Repair Café - Saturday, December 13th from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm

The Resource Recovery and Recycling Division is hosting a special event to encourage community members to bring slightly broken items that need some attention rather than throwing those items away and purchasing replacements. Through this event at 1450 Ocean Avenue, we hope to increase awareness about waste in our everyday lives as well as strengthen community connections. We are looking for skilled individuals interested in sharing their knowledge and expertise with their community. If you enjoy volunteering and jewelry repair, sewing, electrical work, computers, knife sharpening or even furniture repair, this event is for you. Let’s not forget those talented enough to fix a bad haircut! Spend some time helping your neighbors! 3 hours minimum commitment.
