Canal Street Bistro is a standout among Mid City restaurants.

Our weekday lunch and dinner menus and weekend breakfast/brunch menus reflect the diversity of our city with both local and global influences. Our menus include vegan, vegetarian and gluten free items as well. Our food is prepared from scratch with natural ingredients.

We have a fresh fruit and vegetable juice and smoothie bar available Wednesday - Sunday from 9am - 2pm. In addition, we offer a hand selected wine list and premium bar for any meal including signature cocktails.

We used their catering service. This was outstanding. Thoroughly enjoyed by all our out of town and out of country guests. We loved the bananas foster bread pudding, chicken boudin balls, crab cakes, grits and griallades, and sweet potato hash.

I have been eating here for quiet some time, this guy is a great chef, nothing here is an afterthought. The service could be zipped up a little tighter especially when busy, it's just part of the place. Everyone is very courteous. We love eating here!

I've been to Canal Street Bistro three times in the last few months. The food is good and creative. But that is the only strong point this place has going for it. The service is very poor, I spent over an hour there today for food that should have taken about 10 minutes to prepare. I ordered the chicken and waffles with gravy on the brunch specials menu. The chicken was in small pieces, the gravy was a basic white gravy with added spices, crumbled bacon, and sausage, and the waffle was average. This took 43 minutes from the time I ordered it until it arrived at my table. The server was just bad at his job. I had to ask for a refill twice, and after I ate he never brought a bill. I waited about 10 minutes and went to the bar to pay. There I was told that the computer system was not working. I found my waiter added up the total of my food and drink and paid him cash. I felt bad so I left him a tip, but he really didn't deserve one. I know that restaurants use computer systems today, I have worked in a restaurant myself, BUT teach the employees to work without the system. Orders can be hand written and prepared, and bills can be calculated without a machine. Simply add the cost of the items, and apply tax rates as percentages. Credit cards can even be copied manually and entered into the system later that day for processing. To avoid telling guest about a problem because it may be embarrassing is unacceptable. I will never return. There are many other good restaurants in New Orleans that deserve my business more than this one. Don't waste your time or money.

I wouldn't put a star but I have to. After getting sick from breakfast Sunday, I politely called their manager to let them know but the call from the manager was worse then the sickness. After ten minutes of her trying to defend their so called cleanliness I had to hang up. I didn't want an argument, I just called to inform so others wouldn't get sick as well. FYI: most of your customers won't complain, they just won't return.

Again, my apologies for your illness. Not trying to be argumentative, we take matters like this very seriously. I sincerely want to get to the bottom of this so that I can notify manufacturers of the product we use, if need be, and to make sure all staff is using the correct sanitation protocol and take the appropriate corrective measures. We take a great deal of pride in our work, as it is a reflection of us personally. Our kitchen is always open for anyone to see. Thank you, again for taking the time to contact me. The food has always been great but the service is always pathetic, at least for breakfast or brunch. I have walked out before ordering many times. On numerous occasions I have stood for more than 10 minutes without even being greeted by the host, who is clueless about how to perform the task. When finally seated, the servers walk by my table for another 15 minutes without even greeting us. My friends joke that this is to be expected here. By this time we usually decide to walk out and go somewhere else. If they are actually having a good day and we do stay, I've enjoyed the coffee, juices, shrimp and grits, migas, fresh pastries and other menu items. My advice is to try it if it's slow. If it's busy, they can't handle it, just go somewhere else.

Great food with vegan and vegetarian options and impeccable service- The manager remembers my name and always greets me. My only complaint is that they're closed Tuesdays. Sometimes I forget and try to walk in. At one point, the waitresses were all hot redheads... That's the REAL reason I went there.
