Publishers work hard to give their users the best experience to view their content on mobiles, sometimes by building excellent mobile websites and sometimes by building native web apps.
Wouldn't it be cool if you could give your users the choice of viewing your content either on the website or via your app, both straight from Google's search results?
Starting today, Googlebot can now crawl and index Android apps, just like crawling and indexing of websites. If all goes well, our algorithms can then decide to show an "Open in app" button next to your content if we show it as a search result for a signed-in user who has your app installed.
This means users can now choose to go to your website or to your app straight from Google's search results.
Google mobile search is getting faster - to be exact, 200-400 milliseconds faster! We are gradually rolling out this improvement to all browsers that support the <a ping> attribute (currently, mobile Chrome and Safari).
What's the benefit? Whenever the user clicks on a result, typically they are first sent to a Google URL redirector and then to the target site. With <a ping>, the click is tracked using an asynchronous call, meaning that the user sees one less redirect and a faster overall experience!
