Good morning, friends! Did you know that September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month? That according to the American Cancer Society, in 2016 there were over 22,280 new cases of ovarian cancer will be diagnosed and 14,240 women died of ovarian cancer in the United States.

Did you also know that the risk of developing ovarian cancer gets higher with age? Ovarian cancer is rare in women younger than 40. Most ovarian cancers develop after menopause. Half of all ovarian cancers are found in women 63 years of age or older.

That woman diagnosed when they are younger than 65 do better than older women. If ovarian cancer is found, treated, and not given the opportunity to metastasize outside the ovary, patients can experience a 5-year survival rate of over 92%.

Unfortunately, only 15% of all ovarian cancers are found at this treatable, early stage.

Later stages can manifest itself as a loss of appetite, weight loss, pain in the abdomen or pelvis, bloating, change in bowel habits, fluid in the abdomen, indigestion, nausea, or unexplained fatigue.

Early stages of Ovarian Cancer often have no symptoms at all. Making early diagnosis all the more important for all women in your life. Including yourself.

Currently, Consumer Safety Watch is teaming up with the Syracuse, NY non-profit, Hope for Heather, whose proceeds go to national ovarian cancer research foundations.

If you’d like to make a donation for national research efforts, feel free to visit their donation page here: http://www.hopeforheather.org/donations.htm

And if you'd like to learn more information on early Ovarian Cancer diagnosis or to find a physician or clinic in your area be sure to check out the American Cancer Society here: https://www.cancer.org/cancer/ovarian-cancer.html

Remember ladies, early detection is key! Self-care includes reproductive health too!
