A cohort of consumer advocacy groups are calling for Philip Morris International to end its global "Be Marlboro" campaign, and is calling for all countries to adopt stricter regulations that would in effect ban all marketing, promotion and sponsorship from tobacco companies.

"Even if little Johnny learns that exercise is good for him, he’s unlikely to run and play if the park is ridden with broken glass and scary people selling drugs. … Law and public policy decisions, such those that regulate private sector behavior and invest in infrastructure, are the public health tools that make these interventions possible."

Carole from South Carolina is asking Waffle House to make all of their restaurants ‪#‎smokefree‬. There are countless reasons why restaurants should go 100% smoke-free, but for starters - no one should have to choose between their paycheck and their health.

Fifteen-year-old "Elena" is typical. She would get up at 3 a.m. to make lunches, she said, then go up and down the rows removing flowers from tobacco plants for 12 or more hours a day. "It smells of chemicals and it gives you a headache," she told me. "Sometimes I feel like vomiting... We can't get sick because then we can't work."

Some musings on using Facebook for food marketing surveillance -- and my thoughts on Fanta and Pepsi Max's current messaging. What age group do you think the Fanta marketing is actually intended for, based on the images here?

Pepsi says not to worry. You know, just in case you thought they might be voluntarily reducing their portion sizes or something. :-/

Some progress towards a truly #smokefree DC. There's still more work to be done, but it's great to see the City Council working on advancing its smoke-free policies.

A girl can dream, right? Wouldn't it be amazing if every food product contained this information, even if you may think a different visual presentation would work better?

+Tammy McLeod I know! Fingers crossed. It's a great step, but ultimately I think it would be amazing to see this much information on every food product -- particularly the welfare information.

McDonald's is planning to open vegetarian-only restaurants in India. A good reminder that meatless doesn't automatically equal healthy.

That's too bad +Megan Yarbrough! I use this one: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/seans-falafel-and-cucumber-sauce/

I blend everything except the beans, which I mash.

Once I tried it with fresh beans, but the balls exploded the fryer and then fell apart. other wise, I've had good luck. I'll invite you next time!

Introduction
My passion lies in empowering people to become advocates for a healthier world.

While I was in high school, several friends and family members were diagnosed with cancer. So began my fight against cancer, and my interest in public health advocacy.

I truly believe we can make a difference in our communities and that belief empowers me to seek out new and creative ways to create change.
