The audiologists and staff at Oklahoma Hearing Center would like to recognize the men and women who have died while serving in the U.S. military. For over 150 years, Americans have gathered to honor the sacrifice of those who have given their lives in service to their country. Initially called Decoration Day, General John Logan asked Americans to lay flowers and "decorate" the graves of the fallen soldiers. Before 1971 it was not a National Holiday and was celebrated on May 30th, until the Monday Holiday Act of 1968 officially changed this holiday to the last Monday in May. Traditions and rituals have evolved over the 100 years of celebrating this holiday. On Memorial Day, the American flag should be hung at half-staff until noon, then raised to the top of the staff until sunset. At 3:00 pm, all Americans are encouraged to stop and pause for a National Moment of Remembrance. The Indianapolis 500, since its inception in 1911 has always been scheduled on or around Memorial Day, drivers race 200 laps for a distance of 500 miles. Many Americans honor non-veterans on this holiday, laying wreaths on graves of family and friends. The Lincoln Memorial was dedicated on Memorial Day in 1922.

Mouth Issues:

From bad breath to canker sores, most changes in your mouth aren't serious.

But if you have white or red patches or sores in your mouth that don't heal after a couple of weeks -- especially if you smoke -- see your doctor. It may be a sign of oral cancer. Other things to look for: a lump in your cheek, trouble moving your jaw, or mouth pain.

Call OOA today.
