For a change of pace, I tried roasting coffee on my stovetop last night. I tried a small batch of Sweet Maria's Kenya Kyeri Kagumo-ini, about 1/4 pound. I put the beans in my cast iron skillet on medium to medium-low heat and stirred constantly. It took about 30 minutes to get to the start of the second crack.
Overall, it turned out better than I had originally thought it would. Based on my (highly unscientific) bite/taste test after the roast, the beans don't seem to dry out as much compared to my gas grill roaster.
