Flushing will create 1.4 million sq. ft. spanning across two different structures, complete with a flyover walkway to the NYC Ferry stop. Two buildings will makeup Navy, housing a community science and engineering museum, classrooms, and workforce development space. Solar Carve is nearing full completion! GEA is providing mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection design services to this eye-catching tower that is rising next to the High Line in Chelsea. As previously reported, the dazzling 10-story structure will be entirely encased in glass, and constructed with reinforced concrete. Careful solar orientation studies were carried out by the designers so they were able to “ensure that enough light could penetrate and illuminate the High Line no matter the time of the day, or the building’s size.” Spanning 139,000 sq. ft., 40 Tenth Avenue is expected to be complete sometime between early and mid-2019! Permits have been filed for the expansion at 827 Broadway! GEA is providing MEP/FP services to the site that will consist of eight stories and 70,140 sf. The newly proposed design will honor the historic site as the home of the late Abstract-Expressionist artists by having a façade of reflective triangular window panels forming pyramids in every direction. In addition to the façade, the expansion will be pushed back from the existing building and that space will become a landscaped terrace with flowers that will reflect their colors toward the street via the reflective pyramid window panels. An estimated completion date has yet to be announced but this addition is the perfect homage to the artistic style that has been practiced at this land marked site!
