I love museums in general and while the Native Hawaiian art they have on regular display isn't my cup of tea, they do have a fabulous collection of Islamic art and for that reason the museum is worth a visit. Also, if you're interest in visiting Shangri La, the only way to do it is through a small group tour with the museum so take advantage of your time and do both in an afternoon. Even if you don't love the museum I'll guarantee that the tour of Shangri La will be one of the best house tours you've ever taken. Don't miss out!

This museum is gorgeous, with open-air courtyards and fountains, a giant outdoor wall mural, and exhibitions ranging from Japanese woodblock prints to Egyptian relics to contemporary Hawaiian-inspired art. The displays have a lot of background/educational information, which helped me to better appreciate the art. I couldn't even see everything in one three hour trip and am looking forward to going back.

I always bring my kids for the Kamaiana Family Day the 3rd Sunday of the month. They have tons of activities and different themes and of course there is all the ART!

Such an eclectic variety of art from around the world. Easy enough to spend a whole afternoon in contemplation without running into anyone. I was fortunate to have my own private tour with the quietly enthusiastic docent Margaret. I truly enjoyed my visit and plan to return at least once more since I have yet to explore the Spalding museum. 3 bonuses: They have Georgia O'Keefe + Chihuly + Diego Rivera as part of their permanent collection.

This is a world class museum which you should not miss! We were able to see the Matson exhibits plus all the other great adventures present. The staff were very knowledgeable and helpful. The museum store was also great--we rarely buy items at these stores but the selection was quite unique so we got out the card. We had enjoyed quite a bit of great food in the two weeks were spent in Honolulu but the museum café was the best we had during the whole trip and in a terrific setting. We will definitely be back.
