Need some help, here!  -

This pane is from this pattern from last autumn's Vogue Knitting. I have knit this in sport weight cotton (Rowan's Cotton Glacé), and thought I'd try the first pane to see how it holds up. I love it but think the cotton may be too heavy and pull it out of shape. Need opinion before casting on second pane, does anyone think this could work?

I love that, and the pattern. Not sure if it will pull it out if shape or not, sorry!

Hey UK knitters! The Knitting and Stitching show now has a spring date. I'm going to try my hardest to make this one. Anyone else going to be there?

Angostura is finished! I bound off last night and it has been drying all day. Such a shame it will be too warm to wear it tomorrow!

Books, tools, equipment etc  -

HI everyone, I have just joined this community.  I am not sewing my own garments of yet but this is something I would really like to get into this year.

My main issue at the moment is that I am going to need to buy a sewing machine before I start as my hand stitching sucks!  This is still going to be a couple of months away but I was wondering if I could get any recommendations for sewing machines (bearing in mind I live in the UK) which would be good for someone starting out but yet have all the features I will need.

I know how to use a sewing machine so that isn't a problem, but I would like one that would let me extend into making curtains and cushions too.  Thanks in advance for your help!

Great, +Jo Price!
Under all circumstances I think it would be great if you talked with your sewing machine dealer. They would know what you'd need. :)

Getting together a new project bag is always exciting!  I'm just getting all my things together to cast on this:

I'm hoping to have enough yarn left over for Laura Aylor's Faberge too!

Here's up update in my Sheep Heid. I've started an additional row of girls to make it more slouchy.

My floats are a little on the tight side, any advice for this?

Current projects  -

I haven't used a sewing machine for many, many, many years so I challenged myself to a small project. It took several iterations, but I finally got there! I am currently exploring the possibilities for fat quarters to do something bigger.

I'd love to know: what do you like to make with fat quarters?

An update on Sheep Heid:

I've moved to longer circs and been more aware of my floats, the second row of girls has come out much better. The problem I think was, apart from the short circulars, 1 stitch in the background colour, then a float of 12 stitches for about 5 rounds!

Next time I will put 3 stitches between each girl.

Pattern is Sheep Heid by Kate Davies (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sheep-heid) she also has a steeked blanket with this design on which looks amazing, check it out.
