After Sunflower, Wildwood was eagerly anticipated and it did not disappoint! Not that Weller really cares much for critical reassurance, but this release was universally praised and signalled a new direction for Weller that encompassed new genres and lyrical introspectives on his own re-emergence. No wonder it made Q magazines top 100 British Albums of all time in 2000

Looking at our favourite tracks, we're start with the title track. Wildwood gave a new musical canvas on which to paint images of Weller's own journey from creative obscurity and the determination, will and self belief required to emerge from the Wildwood and get to where he's going!

Sunflower set the tone for the full-blown re-invention of #Weller. Released some 2 months before Wildwood, this track oozed the confidence of an artist that had rediscovered his form, and his passion for writing songs of mesmerizing substance and quality.

Seeing him perform this live on Jools Holland, it gave more of a sense of what was stirring within. This was not the 'angry young spokesman for a generation' of some 15 years gone by; this performance offered up a new physical presence that defined Weller's power to overcome self-doubt, step out of the shadows and deliver a performance that made a definitive statement to anyone who dared write him off!

From the same LP, our 3rd choice is Kosmos. The 'Beatlesque' psychedelic effects and flutes gave this a special atmosphere that captures the title perfectly. We've opted to share with you this re-mix that appeared on the B-side of Sunflower. Your verdict?

After re-discovering his #Woking roots, #Weller created some great work for the début solo LP. Amongst Butterflies is a stand out track. Great melodies and lyrical imagery that points to halcyon days gone by. Let the music do the talking. Love this live rendition on '#Later  in around 1994. Beautiful...hope you agree?

After TSC's last Royal Albert Hall catastrophe, I elected to give #Weller the benefit of the doubt one last time. After hearing he was playing at the Guildford Civic Hall, I ventured out to find that his mojo was back. Into Tomorrow kick-started a resurgence in form that obliterated the anti-climax of latter-day TSC material. It saw a writer and performer back in touch with himself, a man revived and re-energised. This gig saw a new kind of 'angry young(ish) man' clearly exorcising ghosts of the previous few years to reconnect with his roots and play to his strengths. Gone was the theatre and pretence and in came a man, a guitar, a great song and a clear message to his doubters that he was back!

Apologies for the gap in posts! Great gig in Watford to blame with #AllWeller

Our second choice from 'Confessions' is 'Changing of the Guard'. This entire project was adventurous and attracting rebuke was inevitable from a disillusioned fan base and record Co. Take Weller out of the equation and it might have been judged differently but people still clearly had expectations that he was keen to ignore. The contra bass and classical dynamism of this track allows us to forgive the slushy lyric shared with Weller and DC Lee. In all honesty Weller's vocal style sat rather awkwardly in this genre but still his melodic panache shines through!

Thought we'd throw this in as it wasn't on our list from '84. A classic video that I remember well and great tune! This was originally penned at The Jam's swansong but re-worked by TSC and filmed at Woking Football Club. Quality!

Title track 'The Cost of Loving' was arguably the most revered track on this collection from '87 and in particular the 12" version. A far more subtle take on the album version, this extended alternative still sounds contemporary and could easy swerve its way into Weller's current repertoire.
