People rave about this place. So I had to come check it out. Sadly, I was not impressed. I had their bread pudding, which I heard was fantastic. Here's what I did like about it. The apples on top were amazing. The flavor was wonderful. Here's what I didn't like: it was soggy and not in a good way. It was more like soggy bread than a dense moist cake consistency which is how I prefer my bread pudding. The flavor of the pudding was nothing to rave about. Nothing out of the ordinary. The location is great and the decor is awesome, but I wouldn't wait in line for their baked goods. Going to try this place again and get some of their bread. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing.

The wait is worth it. Love the pastries, love the sandwiches. But my reason to go here is to sample the bread pudding. They use seasonal fruit and it's oh so tasty. A must when I'm in this neighborhood.

Always a line out the door for Tartine, even on weekdays when it first opens! This bakery is small but has several tables indoors and outside on the sidewalk. A comfortable place to enjoy coffee and a sandwich while listening to all the hustle and bustle. Get there early to try their famous morning buns which usually run out by the afternoon -- it is one of the best pastries I've ever had! The morning bun is extremely light and flakey. It unravels almost like a croissant. Crispy, sweet golden edges with little glass beads of sugar for an extra delicate crunch. You'll end up licking your lips after every bite. The softer, fluffier inner layer is like a whisp of cotton candy in terms of weight, texture, and the way it melts in your mouth. As you work your way in, the pastry gets a little denser and there’s a more chewy cinnamon bun-like center. Heaven!

We live close by Tartine Bakery and come here regularly on a Sunday morning for fresh coffee and pastries. The line can get veeeery long, be prepare for a 10 minute wait! They have tables inside but you can get everything to take away too. For some reason they sell bread only in the evening. The bread pudding is yummy!

Oh Tartine. You are definitely responsible for my ever-increasing waistline. Tartine has some of the best pastries in San Francisco and EVERYONE knows it. I think Tartine is one of those places that is on every "what to do when you're in San Francisco" list because the line always stretches halfway down the block. I recommend going on a weekday morning when the line is a manageable length. The gougères are my favorite, along with the savory bread pudding if they happen to be serving it. My boyfriend swears by the jambon croissant. I've never been for their lunchtime sandwiches, but I've seen friends who have brought them to the park and wow they looked incredible.

Always super busy with a line out the door. Best to go on a weekday and avoid the weekend/tourist. Pastries are super sweet but always fresh because of the high turnover. The morning buns are only available in the morning. I had a frangipane (almond fruit tart) for the first time here and it was heavenly. This is the place you take your friends visiting from out of town because it's so well known. And then you take them to Craftsman & Wolves and blow their mind.
