Did you know that Doppler radar can sometimes pick up vehicles moving down the highway? Some stable air just above the ground this afternoon is causing the National Weather Service in Wilmington's radar beam to be partially deflected towards the ground. As a result, we can see cars and trucks moving down I-71 in the far northern part of Clinton County on radar. The yellow colors in the attached radar image show objects (in this case, vehicles) moving away from the radar at over 60mph. While weather radar can't detect individual objects, it appears most cars and trucks are moving about the speed limit. Cool, huh?
