Being recent transplants to CT from TN, we had been looking for some place to get some good home cooking. It's not quite like home, but it is very close. The food is high quality and very flavorful. The fried chicken was crispy and delicious. The greens, smoked sausage, and pecan pie were very good. The gumbo was not quite like what we have had in New Orleans, but it was good all the same. The cornbread was sweet and crumbly! It's definitely worth a try.

Went on Saturday night, waited along time for the hostess, staff seamed frazzled, ordered jambalaya (very good but spicy) and cornbread (very good) ordered 2 pulled pork sandwiches with salt and vinegar fries. Pork was good but came out dry, had to use there own bbq sauce(delicious) to put it on. Not used to diy sandwiches. Ordered tap water and lemon omg( gross) waitress was nice in the beginning but seemed upset at something

Great experience! They hosted a lunch yesterday afternoon for our your hockey team and did an amazing job! The kids had their own server who waited on them with a smile, and filled the countless requests quickly. They had plenty of food that even the kids said was tasty (how often do they do that!). The great server kept the kids going and allowed the parents to enjoy themselves. The parents raved about how great the food tasted, how reasonable the prices are. We will be back, and I would recommend Black-eyed Sally's whole heartedly to anyone looking for a delicious meal in downtown Hartford!

Service was very attentive ..The cornbread as well as the corn chowder was EXCELLENT !!! Salad is chopped with a large variety of veggies in a sweet mustard dressing in just the right amount...I had brisket that was sliced thinly and mixed with a semi sweet sauce and poured over Texas toast and a few onion rings..At first I was disappointed in the serving size of the brisket but when I mixed all the ingredients together with a bit of sweet cornbread I could barely finish the plate.. The band was Curly Taylor zydeco group, they were par excellent !! They had the whole house dancing to every driving tune !! I had two lemonade vodka drinks that hit the spot, strong enough to get me dancing with my wife but had a better time watching the full dance floor groove with talented two steppers. In all the check of $65.00 and the $25.00 admission charge [that went to the band] was well worth the great food and fun night..

I tried the blacken salmon with red potatoes, green beans and the fried green tomatoes. It was delicious! Tasted just like my mother's. Great atmosphere and music. Service a little slow and restrooms could be upgraded. Overall it's a nice old school southern feel spot.

First let me say if you are looking for a great atmosphere Black Eye Sally’s is it, second if you are looking for great and authentic soul food, this is not it. I had been to this restaurant one previous time and was not impressed with the food my second trip did not prove different. The cornbread is literally 89cent jiffy mix (not authentic) the grits were a huge blob. I wish someone would inform the chef that you cannont serve grits after a half hour and you do not put white mozzarella in cheese grits. Lastly the collard greens were way too sweet and the chef never removed the stalks. All and all they have a great atmosphere with poor food. Seriously they need to fix this. Here is the one question you should ask yourself if you choose to patronize this restaurant. “Do I smell any food cooking.” This is a strange question but I guarantee you the answer will be no. Then ask yourself in what soul food restaurant do you not smell the food cooking?

I had the Louisiana gumbo followed by a piglett platter. Scrumptious! Enjoyed every minute of it. Friendly waitress and reasonable prices. Great atmosphere. Try it out :)
