In a world, where a whole bunch of amazing kickstarters are running at once...

Let me present to the the precious, insanely dear to my heart, closest thing to a grandchild my parents will get - the game we've been pouring over for 2 years.

LASER KITTENS!

Back it, share it, help us any way you can. I really want people to love this game as much as we do.

We may be able to help FOUR designers make it to Metatopia.

Please, if you know anyone who would benefit from this, have them apply!

IGDN Metatopia Sponsorship!

We did it! We've raised enough to bring a second diverse designer to Metatopia through the IGDN's program. That means that we'll have the funds to make it possible for two designers to come to Metatopia: a free badge, a free room, and money for travel to make it to the convention FOR TWO PEOPLE. I'm seriously grinning ear to ear. :D

We're also proud to announce that we're partnering with Games to Gather, a local Portland organization, to bring a third designer as well. Games to Gather is pioneering a new model, splitting costs with us and working to find local talent that might not hear about us on G+. So exciting!

Huge thanks to +Whitney Beltrán, +Jahmal Brown, +Ajit George+Julia Ellingboe, +Misha B, +Ariana Ramos, +Anna Kreider, +Sarah Richardson, +Liz C., +Stacy Dellorfano, +Rowan Cota, +Kira Magrann, +Mo Jave, +Filamena Young, +Brianna Sheldon, +Emily Care Boss, +Chris Chinn, +Jessica Hammer, +Meguey Baker, +Tracy Hurley and more (sorry if I missed you!) for helping to get the word about about diversity issues in gaming through Gaming as Other, Contessa, Gaming as Women, and other organizations. You all definitely should take credit for helping folks to see what it takes to build a diverse community, and making it possible for the IGDN to act on the momentum you've built.

And we're not done. If we can raise $1,000... we'll add one more designer to the list, making it a total of four designers that will join us at Metatopia. That's practically a cohort. So please get the word out; we're just a few donations from a record-breaking year for this program!

Here's what you can do to help right now:

1) Find a designer you think deserves this sponsorship and MAKE THEM APPLY. Seriously. Hound them. Bother them. Ask them again and again to get an application in and make their game real. Don't be a jerk (obviously) but make sure they know that we need them to make this program work. We literally can't do it without them.

2) Spread the word. Email 3 people about it that might be donors or applicants. Post on Facebook. Post here on G+. Shout it from the rooftops and let folks know this program is coming together.

3) Donate. Even just $20 can help push us to where we need to go pretty fast. If you want diverse games, make an investment now to seeing those games come to life through a support network of game designers at Metatopia.

And when you've done some of those things, come back to this thread and tell us about them! Let's celebrate together these positive steps toward making our community more diverse! :D

Here's to hoping this spark turns into a bonfire!

Would anyone be up for a working/brainstorming meetup tonight around 7:30 pm EST?

There's a month before Metatopia and I'm stuck. Maybe there are others having such issues and could use a work party to help? Let me know!

So, we're trying to get two designers to Metatopia! Chip in of you can.

Help Us Get Diverse Designers to Metatopia!

Please share this post! It can make a difference in our community!

(TL;DR - Help us raise money for bring more folks to Metatopia: https://www.gofundme.com/5m4sd5h4)

Last year, the Indie Game Developer Network held our first sponsorship to get more diverse designers to Metatopia, our industry's largest focused gathering of game designers and industry professionals. Given our limited funding, we were only able to select one awesome designers (+Sarah Richardson) and we'd like to be able to send even more folks this year.

We think it's crucial that people who don't usually have access to this kind of environment get actual resources to make the trip, both because they deserve to have a chance to spread their wings and fly and because Metatopia is better off for their presence. In other words, the IGDN believes this is a crucial bridge between the community we have and the community we want.

The IGDN is already committed to bringing one new designer to Metatopia this year; we're asking for your help to bring a second (or third) designer as well. +Avonelle Wing and +Vincent Salzillo over at Double Exposure (the folks who run Metatopia) have already committed to getting rooms and badges for these folks, so we're looking for funds to pay for travel expenses to make this happen!

Do you want a more diverse indie design community?
Do you want to see more women and people of color designing games?
Do you want to see new games like Bluebeard's Bride or Dog Eat Dog or Steal Away Jordan that shatter expectations?
Do you want to make a literal difference on this issue that we talk about so often (yet often feel stuck trying to solve)?

This is how we can start to solve it. Let's give the people who deserve to have a shot at Metatopia the resources they need to come to the convention. Let's show these folks that we really do care about their attendance and contributions. Let's make this happen!

(And if you're someone who thinks this sponsorship might be for you... please fill out the application ASAP: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/181AKIK0TicQVNn_Dj_YPqkAptRfKheXmowpKqsU_FVo/viewform)
