Yesterday, I was getting 20mbps on Time Warner. Today, I got the following with the new modem they just sent me installed. Thanks, Google Fiber :)

After the universal rollout of popup blockers in all browsers, website developers have resorted to using CSS popups instead. If not for ads, then for 'join our community' or 'fill out our survey' pleas.

I actually wrote to one site author, because I kept inadvertently clicking on their site in Google search results, and getting a 'Join our community' popup thrown in my face every time. I asked them to please stop the madness, and they replied back and said that since they started using the popup, their subscriber rate had tripled. Now, even 'legitimate' sites are doing it as well.

Thus, as far as they're concerned, it's always preferable to annoy the hell out of their visiters, as long as it means more subscribers or more revenue.

Since these new CSS popups basically make old-style popup blockers virtually useless, I think we (users of the Internet) should petition browser makers to remove ALL features that allow content in a web page to pop over other content, as it is becoming increasingly obvious that sites cannot handle this feature responsibly, and will always abuse it.

As crazy as that sounds, who is with me? :P

FYI: Windows 8 promo pricing going away at the end of January. (I'm assuming the $15 loophole will be going as well). For the promo price, I think it's definitely worth it, if for no other reason than to get the pro version. For the regular price? No f-ing way.

Gotta give props to +Robert Moreno for this recommendation. This game is farking hard. If you start with games lasting 5 seconds or less, no... you're not doing anything wrong :)

Still stuck at 27 secs on Hardest mode. It's one of those games where you can't think and must only play on instinct.

Tried about half a dozen different Android audiobook apps this evening and came away liking Mortplayer the best. It truly is the 'everything but the kitchen sink' player. Might take you awhile to wrap your head around it, but not bad once you get used to it :) About the only thing I was missing is variable speed playback, but I'll gladly trade that for the automatic bookmarking feature.

Another decent option would be Akimbo player, if you don't mind loading audiobooks into its library, iTunes-style (deal breaker for me).

My primary email address, which has been spam-free for about 8 years, has finally been compromised. But I'm curious about something ...

Why does the spammer, who now has my email address, keep blasting my inbox with the same message, over and over again? We're talking multiple times a day, for the exact same stock scam. Do they not think I got it the first 50 times they sent it? I'm guessing it's to bypass spam filters, but they only make minor variations to the subject/text every time they send a new one.

"Oh cool another Youtube message.... Click. Click. WTF this isn't You Tube?!  Oh wait that's a great deal on Viagra let me get some of those."
...3 Weeks later they arrive, takes them. "Why isn't it getting hard!" Doh, I've been Scammed! "

????
I can't believe people would actual fall for that.?
LOL.

So is it possible to customize the navigation bar in Android 4.0+? On my Nexus 4, I'm actually sticking with the stock ROM (rooted, of course). The only thing I really miss from Codename on the Gnex was being able to configure long-pressing the Back button to kill the currently running app... that was a handy feature to have.

Got this email from a friend of mine, and confirmed it was legit (as opposed to a chain mail forward). Anybody heard about an increase in iTunes/Paypal-related fraud lately?

'All, just wanted to give you a heads up to watch your credit cards if you have accounts with PayPal or ITunes.  My sister’s accounts got hacked into and they charged over $100 to her visa debit card in iTunes and PayPal called her today about a pending charge on her MasterCard she had on file with them.  When she called iTunes they said that they had seen an increase in fraudulent activity with their accounts.  So just wanted to let you all know to keep a close eye on your accounts.'

Ok, my last update for the night :) If you play this thing long enough, your eyes will begin to show you the patterns at which the shapes move, so you can navigate them easier. Now I can regularly last 11-12 seconds... longest has been 13.

But the controls continue to be a huge problem, unfortunately. If it wasn't for that, this would easily be my favorite mobile game. It's still good, but damn how I wish I had a spinner controller :) lol

IMO, when Google releases a phone, they should release two variants -  a 'fake' Nexus phone and a real Nexus phone with identical hardware, except that the real one is gimped with 16gb of storage and HSPA, just the way Google wants it.

Let the fake one be 'customized' by each carrier with LTE radios plus all the crapware they want, and call it something other than a Nexus, so nobody is mislead, but enthusiasts still know the score. Just convince the carriers to keep the bootloader unlocked on this ONE phone.

Then, when OS updates are released for the real one, you can install them on the fake one, with the radios from the carriers. Basically, the same thing we had with the Verizon Galaxy Nexus, but with a radio that doesn't suck ass.

On the Nexus 4? There's a hack to get very limited LTE in certain circumstances. AFAIK, it doesn't work with AT&T, but I don't know all of the technical aspects of it.

If you use Google Voice and haven't been on the site lately, they're doing some new stuff with contacts.

And then I use something called GrooveIP to receive and make calls using google voice on my Android smartphone. That makes me not having to get my ass raped by Verizon or AT&T as this serves as voice service using Data.
