Saw this last night. Great message, but will people listen.

Shame on the idiots who are using this to promote their earth destroying products (Mazda, etc.). Did you not get the message?

Do you know what a Lorax is? The character invented by Dr Seuss has been loved by adults and children alike for the past 40 years. But as a new film version is released in the US, what is the book really all about?

HOW TO MAKE A SLICED PHOTO FOR PINTEREST IN PHOTOSHOP
1. Crop a photo to a square: Select the Crop tool in the toolbox. In the Options bar, type 450 px in both the Width and Height fields. Drag out a crop bounding box and press enter.
2. Slice the square photo into 9 squares: Select the Slice tool in the toolbox. In the Options bar, set Style to Fixed Size and type 150 px in both the Width and Height fields. Click in the image to make a slice. Click inside the slice boundary to drag it into place. Repeat for each of the 9 squares, making a 3x3 grid of square slices.
3. Choose File>Save for Web and Devices. In the Save for Web window: Set one of the previews to optimize as JPEG with quality set to high. Select the Slice Select tool, and Shift+click on all 9 slices in the selected preview. Leave the other options at their defaults, and click Save at the bottom of the Save for Web window. In the Save As dialog box that opens, choose a location and click Save. In that location you'll find a folder named images that contains 9 jpeg files numbered from top left to bottom right from 1 to 9.
4. In Pinterest, create a new board. Upload image 9 first, 8 second, and so on to image 1. This is the step that takes the longest.
5. Enjoy your sliced Pinterest photo.

Why a Big Mac Costs Less Than a Salad

An oldie but goodie, highlighting the role of government subsidies in our less-than-healthful diet. The image is of two contrasting food pyramids: one our recommended diet, and the other our food subsidies. Another shameful case of government policy gone wrong.

I'd love to see an administration and a Congress brave enough and smart enough to fix problems like this.
Thanks to lobbying, Congress chooses to subsidize foods that we're supposed to eat least of.

Hear what an Earthquake feels like. Seismic signals upconverted to sound.

The audio was created by taking the seismic signals, which are typically detected in the 0.01 to 100 Hz frequency range, and speeding the soundtrack by a factor of 50 to 100 times. That brings the sound into the audible range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz, and crunches hours' worth of data into less than a minute of audio.

Researchers from Georgia Tech suggest that the best way to visualize the seismic effects of last year's Japan earthquake is with your ears — and they've put together three

Let's be clear: the NDAA grants the president the power to kidnap any American anywhere in the United States and hold him or her in prison forever without trial. The president's own signing statement, incredibly, confirmed that he had that power. As I have been warning since 2006: there is not a country on the planet that you can name that has ever set in place a system of torture, and of detention without trial, for an "other", supposedly external threat that did not end up using it pretty quickly on its own citizens.

The US is sleepwalking into becoming a police state, says Naomi Wolf.
Naomi Wolf: The US is sleepwalking into becoming a police state, where, like a pre-Magna Carta monarch, the president can lock up anyone

Yes, great news. I'm tired of all the diplomatic failures . Sanctions on Iran getting us nowhere. Syria going nowhere. Palestine/Israel conflict going nowhere. Constant problems with Pakistan, Iraq and Afghanistan. Mexican drug cartel problem continues without positive news. This North Korea news is VERY promising.

Saw this at Sundance 2011 and was amazed by it. Great project.

The Johnny Cash Project

If you have never seen this then its a good a time as ever to watch, over 250,000 people each took a frame of the video of "Ain't No Grave Can Hold My Body Down" by the legendary Johnny Cash and worked on it, then the video was put back together using the reworked frames, I have always loved this and I think it goes to show what can be done when artists get together, wonderful stuff.

Before you speak.... THINK

T - is it TRUE?
H - is it HELPFUL?
I - is it INSPIRING?
N - is it NECESSARY?
K - is it KIND?
