Girl Scout ceremonies commemorate accomplishments and enable girls to share Girl Scout history and traditions and create their own special memories. This week we officially welcomed almost 900 girls to the Girl Scout movement through a very special investiture ceremony where they are presented with a sash, their Girl Scout membership pin, and the badges they’ve earned so far this year: Girl Scout Ways and Fair Play. Having just been a spectator and photographer at these events and not knowing the individual girls or what they had been working on, the smiles on their faces as they were presented with their uniforms said it all.

Troop 9975 prepared and delivered items they bought with money raised at a yard sale to a local homeless shelter. They also collected items by placing boxes at locations around town. “The faces of shelter residents lit up and they were all very thankful for the gifts,” said troop leader Danya Ayers, “I think this has been an important and life changing project for my girls to do!”

Our thoughts are with all of our sister scouts in the Philippines as they face this scary time together.

When hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes, and other disasters strike, a Girl Scout’s first thought is, “How can I help?” It’s important to have a thoughtful plan so that you can give people what they really need during a stressful and scary time. People often immediately send clothing and cans of food to disaster areas. They want to help, but all that stuff may not be what people need—and relief workers say that it often gets in the way of what they’re trying to do.

Imagine it’s 2050. What does the world look like? How have you used technology to change the world? Have you created cleaner air or water? Found a new way for people to communicate? Invented a new way to travel?

Our girls exploded onto the comics scene this weekend with 13 year old Lucy Small in the lead. Girls worked to earn their Comic Artist badge while enjoying the cosplay and everything that the Southern Arizona geek community has to offer. Flip through the pics to see all the fun!

When you hear the words ‘knitting’ and ‘circle’ together you probably imagine a bunch of old women, most likely in rocking chairs,  knitting doilies and making ugly Christmas sweaters. Am I right?

Get that out of your head and let’s start fresh.

Introduction
Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona serves girls ages 5 to 17 through a wide range of contemporary programs that reflect the unique needs and interests of girls living in Southern Arizona. We provide preventative strategies that help girls succeed in school and life and empower girls to reach their full potential. Girl Scouts give girls a voice in the community and their own lives and provides access to programs to girls in need. We support a diverse adult leadership, develop effective community collaborations, and remain fiscally sound to ensure that Girl Scouting is available to girls long into the future.
