It's an okay gym, no other competition around keeps the owners/staff complacent. The climbing experience hasn't been improved in the seven years I've been going. Same old greasy holds, same route set-ups, just gets boring after a few visits. They also recently eliminated many of the bouldering routes which sucks. Speaking of routes, most all of theirs are poorly rated (inconsistent) and labeled with old duct tape that keeps falling off. It is a good gym for the new climber to learn basic top rope safety or for your kids birthday party (they have many unfortunately). For more average to advanced climbers, you'll get bored after a couple of visits. It's better than not having a gym at all, but I wish we had other options in the area. When you live in Northeast Ohio, your expectations should be kept low for all things climbing related I guess.

Things I like: various specials throughout the week; the art wall for top roping & bouldering, staff are quite friendly; sells various drinks; the gym does not require you to anchor in; routes on varying inclines; replacing the rubber chips with a solid, rubber mat... there are plenty of bouldering mats available too to break your fall. Things I dislike: I don't know if it's due to the air conditioning being off, but it is insanely hot in the building (during summer I'm sure it's cooler outside). Not having a water fountain isn't that big of a deal, you could always bring a water bottle from home. Summer hours being 17:00-22:00 and in the fall/winter/spring 15:00-22:00... this makes for very packed weekends and nights when everyone climbs for $10. It's a little clique-y, not that this is anything the gym can help. Since I'm new to the sport, I can only compare to my previous sport of skydiving where the community is a lot more inviting. You'll do well (socially) if you're prepared to approach people here. Would recommend this place for families and adults.

I love Kendall Cliffs! Awesome location. Easy to find. Great area. Safe town. Good pricing. Average cost of a day pass. Great climbing conditions. Many routes for beginners. A mix of top rope and lead routes. Challenging routes for seasoned climbers. Phenomenal staff. The employees are helpful, kind, and knowledgable. Best climbing in the area!

I was very pleased to find Kendall Cliffs in my neighborhood. I just recently started climbing again after six years. Came here with the good friend who allows me to outdoor climb with her. I will say that the price is a bit steep. I would love to come here more often, but I would eventually end up eating my gear because there would be no money left for food. That said, I will defintely be back semi-regularly, especially throughout the winter. The routes are fun and changed up regularly. It is large enough to be comfortable, not large enough to get lost. The staff are some of the kindest and least snobby people I have ever met in a rock gym. That did it for me. They made me feel very welcome. I have never before felt welcomed by the staff at a rock gym. I always feel like I'm just not in the club. Love Kendall Cliffs. I will be back. I will try to get my husband here. Great staff, fun routes. Bouldering is a little lacking. Love the squishy floors. Friendly, helpful staff.

Owners always seem to make unecessary improvements like re-paving the parking lot or adding ipads for signing waivers, instead of improving the quality of the gym and climbing areas. There's no training equipment except for a single hangboard and a really terribly set-up campus board. They recently replaced the floor with pressed rubber that is seriously as hard as concrete. Despite the fact that you could obviously seriously injure yourself falling on it (even a drop from low-bouldering height could hurt an ankle), the owners' son told me you could "fall 14 feet onto it and be fine. You could even land on your head." There's no water fountain and the owners frequently turn off the AC to save money until someone complains about the heat. Holds are always greasy and the route density is so low that you always have to wait for a rope or a turn on a boulder problem. Kendall also advertises being the only custom-built climbing facility in Ohio, which is categorically false (see: Kinetic Climbing Gym, aka. 1000% better gym than Kendall).

I am not typically a critical person but this was the worst climbing gym I have ever been to. The routes were not creative and the holds were greasy and had not been cleaned in months. The staff that worked and the gym was unfriendly and rude. I brought a beginner climber with me and she asked for some tips for belaying. They laughed at her walked away and gave no help. When I went to ask for a refund they were shocked and laugh not understanding why someone who had hardly climbed wouldn't want to climb anymore. If you are an advanced climber or begginer climber I wouldn't go here.

I am a beginner to the sport of climbing (I have climbed on one real outdoor cliff). I tried this place out on a Friday afternoon, taking the rock gym 101 class for $40. They provide everything you need to use the facility. I already own a harness so I used it instead. I was provided a courteous, patient, professional, and enthusiastic staff member for 2 hours of uninterrupted learning and fun at my own pace. I plan to go back, probably once per month. I feel good enough about this place that I am going to bring my friends along with me. The gym itself is smaller than I thought it would be and I would describe it as a large garage that a semi truck and trailer could be parked in. Based on the building size and number of people there on a snowy Friday night, I would not recommend going on a weekend. Based on what I remember there were about 20-25 "belay ropes". When I arrived at 4:30pm I had my pick of where I wanted to climb; however, by 6pm, it started getting crowded. They do have winter 10pm week day night closings so it fits my drive and work schedule perfectly. I live outside the west end of Cleveland so this place and the Cleveland rock gym are equidistant from me (about an hour drive). This is the only local alternative. Kendall Cliffs met my needs which include improving my hand and forearm strength/endurance. I am going to go outdoor climbing again this year and wanted to practice a few techniques as well as test out my new gear in a safe/controlled environment.
