I recently had the opportunity to spend a weekend at City of Refuge, one of Atlanta's largest homeless shelters. What I discovered on this retreat was something unexpected, yet not surprising: The homeless--our neighbors, family members, friends, employees, co-workers, and students--have far more to give volunteers through sharing their life experiences than the meals or articles of clothing that are often given to them. Real change and understanding is only gained after walking a mile, or weekend, in someone else's shoes. It's time we  #Gettoknowthehomeless .

As part of this mission, GCO team members recently participated in a unique weekend retreat at City of Refuge (COR), one of Atlanta’s largest homeless shelters for women and children. While this experience …

Some of the best ideas in the world are buried in our graveyards. The first step to executing a good idea? Taking the first step and starting.
Recently, I had the privilege of attending an inspiring seminar sponsored by Chick-fil-A Foundation and Gifted Education Foundation, entitled “Beyond Inspiration: Moving Ideas to Execution”. As I walked into the Chick-fil-A Discovery Center to find my seat, my eyes wandered around the state of ...

It sounds like a no-brainer, but really...why aren't more college students taking at least 15 credit hours a semester?? The savings alone make it worth while!
Below is a guest blog by Mrs. Sheila Caldwell, Director for Complete College Georgia at the University of North Georgia. Mrs. Caldwell currently serves as a member of GCO's College & Career Pathways working group. ************************ 15 to finish. In a recent poll of high school seniors ...

What a joy it was to interview +CindyAbel, Director of the documentary +BreakingThroughMovie: "Whatever it is that we may be hiding or feel shame about, take one more step forward towards being open about whatever that thing is. That’s where the joy is, living authentically."

In a city known for its glorified strip club culture, Atlanta’s underground sex industry generated more than $290 million in 2007. The sexually exploited are often no older than their early teens. My recent visit to +Wellspring Living, Inc. emphasized why more havens are needed for the survivors of sex trafficking.

The link between #incarceration and #education is clear: more than 70 percent of America’s prisoners did not complete high school and have only a 10th grade education. Eliminating the school-to-prison pipeline requires more urgency to increase access to quality education. #EducationWednesday
In "Education Wednesday: Education Wednesday: Breaking the School to Jail Pipeline", The Wise Latina Club's Aundrea Gregg offers alternatives to break this
