My son is a Goalie playing at the Midget level in Montreal QC. He suffered a severe cut to his wrist during a game on Jan. 4th During a scramble at the net while Elliott reached out with his glove to cover the puck a player accidentally ran over his wrist with his skate. My son was deeply cut and bleeding heavily, we rushed him to the hospital were he received 11 stitches. He was very lucky, there was no tendon damage, and an artery was narrowly missed, he does have numbness to the top of his hand above and extending partially down his thumb and index finger but his movement and strength seem to be normal. He was not wearing wrist guards which are not mandatory and I was not aware were available. From now on he will wear cut resistant wrist guards and full length socks to all of his games. I would urge all parents of Goalies to invest in the above, my son is lucky it could have been so much worse.
