A finished draco subtilis sculpt. More to come...
Photo

Tomorrow: the Curiosity Market in Pritchard Park (downtown Asheville). then over to +ZaPow Illustration Art Gallery for their Rock and Roll show. Next weekend: off to a show in Charlotte.

In between, everything is dragons.

Thanks to all who came out to Asheville's Art in the Park this past weekend. I'll be there for the remaining Saturdays in June.

This is the original sculpt for my second dragon (draco subtilis). This one is much smaller than draco primoris - just a bit over six inches long. Perfect for places where a giant dragon head would be a bit too much.

I just finished making the mold for this and have the first couple of casts out of it. As with draco primoris, I'm planning on making up to 100 of these. Each of them will be individually named and hand-finished (this involves setting eyes, cleaning up the cast, a bit of sculpting, and painting).

I am hoping to have the first of these over to +ZaPow Illustration Art Gallery this weekend.

Just joined the group. These are my newest work - would love some feedback on them...
The first 3 dragons are finished. This is going to be a series of 100, though there is quite a bit of individual work that will need to go into each dragon head and no two will be quite alike, so to denote that I'm going to give them each a name as well as a number. I thought it would be fun to give the series a species name, and if this series goes well and I can afford the mold material I would like to do more of these sorts of sculpts. The series is going to be "Draco Primoris" and the first three are Autarch, Bellator, and Grimcaul.

See my other post for size reference. These are big - about a foot and a half tall/wide and 10" long. I needed to get a big deer panel to mount Grimcaul on (it might actually be an elk panel).

Dragons in this series are going to be available for sale within the next few weeks. I'm altering the material a little bit to make them lighter and stronger so that they will ship well (though it will still be a huge box!). You'll be able to order a dragon with your choice of scale and eye colors.

My art table looks like Tiamat.

These aren't done. More painting must happen, and the green one at least will be on a taxidermy board.

Tomorrow, one way or another, they will be done and displayed at my table at GeekOut (http://geekoutavl.org)
